If they're not true, I still can't imagine it being great, but maybe it will be entertaining enough. I do think Phoenix will give a solid performance at least. Interestingly though the movie reminds me so much of The King of Comedy, which I loved. To use a slightly more relatable example, it would have been like they gave an advance screening to Ebert and he came out and said "This is probably going to win an Oscar" except Ebert had very little influence at the academy proper.
