EDIT: The song at 14:21 samples from some opera or something, it's also featured in the movie Face/Off... anyone know what it is?

It's from '98, but Terran themes 1 and 3 from Starcraft always got me hype.

I consider 1996 and the launch of both Windows 95 and Diablo 1 to be the end of the bronze age and the beginning of the silver age of PC gaming.

Here's some Blizzard hype, though

PC games prior to 1995

I had to think long and hard, and then I eventually realized I'm not sure I played any PC games prior to 1995 other than Myst, 7th Guest, and Day of the Tentacle. And none of those really have music that stands out in my head at all.

Though I suppose this would technically count (even if I mostly know it from the NES, not PC):

Oh, on further reflection, I suppose you could add The Dark Tower, Spellcasting 301, and Wolfenstein 3D to that list... but I'm not sure any of those actually HAD music.

Oh, and the Zork games, and the Questprobe games, but those were literally text adventures and definitely didn't have music.

Even post 1995, not a lot stands out for me - I'm so very much not a PC gamer. Other than the Baldur's Gate games and Gabriel Knight games, the Vampire: the Masquerade games, and Civ IV, I can't really think of any games I've played on PC at all. Though I did like these two:

I get that, many of the games I played like megazeux/ZZT and Castle of the Winds didn't have music, either

Daggerfall was 94. Most of the PC games I played were from early 90s actually, since that and Game Boy were my only systems, but I don't really think of a lot of the music was that great, maybe a few exceptions.

Music that plays around 0:23 was pretty good, it doesn't last though

as it happens, I was a pretty big PC gamer at that time. (you seem to be right about 1995 being some kind of important year for game music. everything before 1995 is bleeps and bloops (ie: synthesized, adlib/midi or whatever), everything 1995 and later is a lot higher quality (like real digital music).)

boo, you already posted Descent 1

there's somewhat obviously Doom
