Remakes/remasters have never been eligible in previous game contests, including GotD I, so I don't see why they'd start now.

Really?! Wow... I understand the deal with remasters, but remakes are a completely different thing.

That would explain Resident Evil 1 (for GCN) not entering GotD, but it would be really weird not being able to see FFVIIR in action in the future.

(Maybe that also explains why Super Castlevania IV hasn't entered a games contest, but that could also be the game being sadly weak.)

Well, you pretty much have to exclude remakes or remasters. Otherwise, Ocarina of Time would be eligible for GotD2.

Twilight Princess was always great. Skyward Snore was always bad (it's a 3/10 game). Breath of the Wild was always good, thought overrated at the outset (it's an 8/10 game).

Because SS was so bad and BotW was so good, SS will always be the "black sheep" of the console Zelda timeline. People played it and saw all of its flaws. People played BotW and enjoyed the hell out of it despite its flaws (namely the emptiness of the world, but also the poor cooking system and the weapon's system needing some work), which made SS not get any nostalgia at all: Because there was none.

In fairness Star Fox 64 has been in a contest before.

Twilight Princess, I used to like it a lot, but the game just feels forgettable compared to Ocarina and Wind Waker, and even Majora's Mask to a lesser extent if only because of that game's unique mechanics and general weirdness. Lots of people love it though, so good for them.

No, S3&K didn't get in because SBAllen used review scores and stuff to determine seeding, and since we nominated a Steam port of the game, it obviously had nothing to fall back on. Of course, Allen didn't tell us about any of that ahead of time, and it was still a dirty move, but nevertheless.

Can someone explain why people are mad about the new Pokemon? I've watched every Direct and feel like I've got a good handle on the game. I can say with confidence...

- the Pokemon get big. like, SO LARGE
- some of them live in pots, and they're made of tea, and if you're kind to them they'll let you drink some of their very life essence
- everyone keeps saying "Gala Region" every five minutes for some reason
- if you pet your friend's Pokemon just right you'll pop a tent and get invited to spend the night
- Pikachu's in there
- something with Pokemon Go?

People don't like change and they don't like that they can't import every single Pokmon they own due to there being too many species to fit into the game data. Might also have to do with how S&M were so bad and they think these will be bad, too. IDK.

It's probably just that people like to complain.

I think Final Fantasy 14 would beat most of the games in that list (minus Skyrim, Smash and possibly Witcher 3). That game has been getting hella good press lately

It's not because of the new Pokmon or features, it's because:

First and foremost, there are going to be Pokmon removed. Therefore, you won't be able to "Catch 'Em All!". This is a huge deal for some people.

The world has been criticized for being too lazily designed in terms of aesthetics. This normally wouldn't be that big of a deal, but GameFreak said that the reason they cut some Pokmon was to focus on this aspect along with more detailed battle animations, some of which have also being criticized for looking too simple. To make matters even worse, there was a certain picture that went viral in which you could compare a tree from Sword/Shield with a BotW one. At first I was looking at it and I didn't understand what it was, but I realized it wasn't a tree from N64's Ocarina of Time, but an actual Sword/Shield one.

So far, there are no returning features announced that can make people pass on those bitter bits they've been receiving from GameFreak. They want fanbase-specific, well-received features that GameFreak has ditched in favor of other not-so-popular changes (namely Mega evolutions, Trials instead of Gyms, and Z-Moves). They want things like Gen 3's Battle Frontier and Pokmon Contests, or at least details as simple as having a party Pokmon follow you around in the overworld.

FFXIV is definitely one of the strongest and most overlooked PC games currently, but I wouldn't be too confident in it being an MMO. Even games like World of Warcraft are not as strong as they should be on this site.
