I know a ton of people have been disappointed by this year but I've seriously loved it so much. While many big name artists sat this year out, a lot of other, smaller artists really stepped it the fuck up.

Here's my top 10 so far:

1. Purple Mountains - Purple Mountains (Singer/Songwriter, Alt-Country)
----> This instantly became one of my favourite albums of all time. The absolutely tragic story behind it just adds so much to its artistry and I genuinely do not think I've related to an album more. One of the best songwriters in indie rock history at his peak here, so fucking depressing what happened. RIP DCB

2. PUP - Morbid Stuff (Pop Punk, Post-Hardcore)
----> PUP really delivered on all their potential here. They went more indie, more pop this time around but their songwriting improved so much and they came out with banger after banger on this one. Amazing outing from them.

3. Lana Del Rey - Norman Fucking Rockwell! (Singer/Songwriter, Art Pop)
----> I'm so glad Lana ended up making such an amazing album and now no one can talk shit about her talent any more. This really is a very significant record, one that'll cement her legacy imo. I'm so proud of her.

4. Carly Rae Jepsen - Dedicated (Synthpop)
5. The National - I Am Easy to Find (Chamber Pop, Indie Rock)
6. Emily King - Scenery (Sophisti-Pop)
7. FEWS - Into Red (Post-Punk)
8. Tim Hecker - Anoyo (Ambient, Electroacoustic)
9. Flume - Hi This Is Flume (Wonky, Glitch)
10. Starflyer 59 - Young in My Head (Indie Rock)
HM: The Twilight Sad - It Won/t Be Like This All the Time (Post-Punk)

What about you guys?

LOL, yeah it's definitely not work music.

Anything still to come that you're looking forward to? I'm excited for Angel Olsen's new album. The title track is gorgeous.

I need to check some of those Angel Olsen singles, I've heard they're good.

As for upcoming albums, I'm probably going to check out Refused, Pixies and blink-182 for old times' sake. Interested in the new Kanye but the man is super unreliable so who knows if it's actually coming out. Aside from that there's the new Chastity Belt, Sturgill Simpson, The Highwomen (alt-country supergroup), Charli XCX, Menzingers (singles have been STELLAR), and Turnover (just announced!!). And despite myself, I've loved the two new 5SOS songs so I'll probably listen to their next album lol.

Otherwise I'll keep tabs on my usual sites and see if anything interesting pops up.

And I still have to listen to the new Knocked Loose, Ceremony, and Jay Som, among others.

What about yourself? Anything other than Angel Olsen? Also are you on RYM?

Mainly just the new Kayo Dot. There's supposed to be info on a new Swans album coming this week, but it might not see release until next year.

And I have an RYM account, but I use it sparingly: https://rateyourmusic.com/~JackieJams

Honestly, it has been a fantastic year for me and music. So many power metal bands that I am a fann of released albums, way more than I would ever expect in a single year.
My top choice has to be Origine by Ancient Bards.

PUP are awesome, not quite like Moose Blood though. If you want new Moose Blood-y stuff check out the new Oso Oso and Somos albums. You also might like Proper. - I Spent the Winter Writing Songs About Getting Better and Basement's album from last year was great as well.

gizzard is always in the "not quite" category of great albums for me. similarly to thee oh sees, imo they should release less music, trim the fat, and put together their best ideas instead of exploring every single one. just imo. both bands still have dedicated fanbases so they're doing something right for them.

wonder if we're getting album of the decade conversations this year,

Taylor Swift - 1989 (Lover is great, but it's not 1989)
Iron & Wine - Kiss Each Other Clean
Lana Del Ray - Born To Die
Margot and The Nuclear So & So's - Rot Gut, Domestic (The death of the band and transition in Richard's solo career has been super depressing for me.)
Everything Jason Isbell released. But for the sake of the topic, I'd say Southeastern >= Nashville Sound, > Here We Rest > Something More Than Free
Britney Spears - Glory (Yeah. Fuck it)
Jay-Z & Kanye West - Watch The Throne (It may seem like old stuff these days, but holy fuck was it awesome)
John Vanderslice - White Wilderness, Dagger Beach. I haven't gotten around to The Cedars yet, because my needle is broken and I HAVE TO hear it on vinyl. I love this man more than most of the people I know in everyday life. Any JV fan would understand.
The Mountain Goats - All Eternals Deck, Trancendental Youth, Beat The Champ (None of these realistically would be my album of the decade, but are worth mentioning. Goths was AWFUL and In League With Dragons is tolorable at best.)

I haven't listened to Tool yet. I'm sure it makes the list.

This was jarring. I realized quickly that I'm very out of the loop. Due to aging, working, and a lack of access (which I JUST recently found the solution to), I just haven't heard much new stuff over the past 10 year. A lot of stuff I was going to list came out around 15 years ago. Time really is moving.

Lol. Oddly, unike I thought many albums were in this decade only to look them up and find out they were from 2005, MBDTF I assumed was previous decade. Yes, that would definitely make my list.
