This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if there is a compelling reason for both characters to be linked (either co-starring in a game ala Banjo & Kazooie, or always appearing together like Callie & Marie from Splatoon).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

Terry Bogard: If you'd asked me two weeks ago, I'd have said Low Fodder, seeing as he hasn't had a new game in two decades. However, he just experienced something that makes it so someone cannot conceivably be Low Fodder, ergo I bump him up to Mid Fodder. Him being DLC isn't going to help him all that much, but it's still enough to boost him a tier.

Piccolo: Mid Fodder. Recognizable and meme-able, and that's enough for him to beat up on Low Fodder.

Freddy Fazbear: I dunno. Will wait.

Think he'd have been on the high end of low fodder before the Smash announcement.

Piccolo: High fodder

If we're expecting good things out of Goku and Vegeta, Piccolo should probably be sorta decent? Certainly weaker than them but I'd figure him to be the strongest non-Saiyan.

Freddy Fazbear (Five Nights at Freddy's): Low fodder

This franchise was always probably too young, out there, and light on actual game for gamefaqs to care and whatever popularity it had I think has been kind of a flash in the pan. People seemed to like watching youtubers get scared by it more than actually playing it and that's not the kind of thing that's gonna cut it here. Recognizability probably not being abysmal saves him from LAW fodder.

Freddy Fazbear - Low Fodder

If Freddy ever got into a contest I'd prob give him an outside chance to ride a rally far into the contest. Like Axem said, people have been more entertained by watching rather than playing. All the big youtubers have streamed it, plus it put Markiplier on the map. That plus the deep lore it has, puts it above a simple jump scare game and attracts a large following. Just a thought.

Terry Bogard: High Fodder. Smash will obviously help him out for the most part; he also has a kickass design in general, and I think this site's demographic trends will serve him well. That said, he may get some anti-votes from Smash fans who think he's "undeserving" of a roster slot.

Piccolo - Fodder Line. If we ever have fictional characters added to Character Battles, I expect DBZ to translate particularly well. Piccolo is recognizable, well-liked and would stand out like a motherfucker in any match pic.

Freddy Fazbear - LAW Fodder. I have no beef with Freddy or his franchise, but I can't say the same for any older-skewing video game website. GameFAQs is exactly the kind of place where anti-voters would jump at the chance to rip Freddy a new one, just like we saw with Sans and Draven last year. After all, the fanbase is jUsT sO cRiNgE, right? (eyeroll)

Terry Bogard: Mid Fodder. I agree that he was at the high end of Low Fodder before, but Smash has already demonstrated a pattern of not making a huge difference. Terry will have it even worse due to the combination of backlash among certain Smash fans and his reveal in general being overshadowed by a Mii costume (actually a very smart decision by Nintendo, in retrospect).

Piccolo: High Fodder. My impression is that Goku is a legitimate contender, but there's a major strength gap between him and Vegeta, and then another big gap between Vegeta and other DBZ characters. I could well be very wrong, though, because I'm not exactly in touch with the DBZ or anime scene in general.

Freddy Fazbear: Low Fodder. I did seriously consider LAW Fodder, but Freddy should have just enough supporters to avoid bottom-5-of-all-time status.

I agree with High Fodder for Terry. I argue he would have been mid fodder prior to the smash announcement, due to some limited nostalgia and the sheer amount of games he has been in (Fatal Fury, KoF, Capcom vs SNK). And AH YOO AWKAY?!

I say Fodder Line for Piccolo. He is a very well-liked side character who is always involved in the happenings of the show and doesn't "retire" from being a Z Fighter like the human characters. I think his depiction in DBZ abridged is very popular too.

Agree with Low Fodder for Freddy. Everyone knows him, but at this point the series fad has passed and I don't think there are many people on Gfaqs who care enough to anti-vote him.
