Yeah there may be plenty of space, but people keep on moving to and living in the same 5 damn cities. So there is an issue

Isn't overpopulation because caused by countries that are just entering a more stable/advanced stage? Shouldn't it balance out once the cultures adjust and stop having so many kids?

People that don't believe in overpopulation think that because we're not standing shoulder to shoulder from coast to coast that everything is cool? Lol.

Food distribution, clean water, sanitation.. all of these things are logistical nightmares. Putting the infrastructure in place and maintaining it seems like a pipe dream in itself. Even in places like the US, there are major, major issues with roads, piping, everything. Lots of that shit is like hundreds of years old and desperately needs replacing.

Then there's also the fact that humans produce an ungodly amount of waste. Both from personal use and again, creation and distribution of the products we need and use every day. There are no answers for how to deal with this waste. Most countries are just straight up dumping shit into the oceans now.

Tldr; mo people, mo problems.

It's not about how many humans you can physically fit onto the planet. It's about the farm land and everything required that grows the food and raises the animals that the people need to eat.

Has anyone noticed that Cinnamon Toast Crunch seems to have changed their recipe over the past 10 years? It tastes like I'm eating churros dunked in milk. Which, oddly, is exactly what the now defunct (and formerly delicious) Churros cereal didn't do.

these problems have more to do with the dominant economic system (capitalism) than with anything inherent to having a large number of people.

if you're looking at things within a capitalist framework, then of course it would seem that overpopulation is the issue.

So everyone will become peasants ?

not if the elites and bureaucrats are eliminated

The resulting power vacuum tends to suck in bigger assholes than the ones you've just purged.
Just ask Zimbabwe, or France (several times over).

Well they kind of are. Look at any of the highest populated cities in the US and tell me they don't have higher poverty and crime rates than less urbanized ones. LA, SF, NY, Chicago, Philly, Boston, etc are shitholes compared to less populated cities. People are bad. More people equals more bad unsurprisingly. I'm not agreeing with his point though. I don't urbanization is inherently a bad thing. It's just that when there isn't any regulations or control is when it makes things look bad.

NYC is one of the safest big cities. it's safer than cities smaller than it. compare NYC to cities like chicago or st louis and tell me it's seriously more dangerous despite having a much bigger population

Those places are only bad because they're in the USA LMAO. Third and second world countries with even higher populations are better than those places.

Also, I'm sure it's one of the largest, population wise

Allow me to clarify. I mentioned crime rates and poverty. Perhaps I should have said cities with higher populations also have higher crime and/or poverty. Doesn't NY have one of the highest poverty rates in the country?

Point being, there is a high correlation between population and quality of living. Correctmme if I'm wrong, but on top of having higher suicide rates poverty in Tokyo is also relatively high no?
