The house I consider my childhood home(age 4-12) doesn't even exist any more. The next one though, from age 12 until now is still ours and I have a place there even though I'm not currently living there.

No. Technically I grew up in 2 houses and both are no longer standing. I was on Google Maps a couple months back looking at the vacant lots where they used to be and I was nearly in tears.

Never owned, always rented. My grandma left my dad and aunt her house when she died though, and he bought bought out my aunt's half. So now he technically owns it, but he had been renting it for a couple years.

Yes but they want to sell it since its a lot of hassle to maintain a 4 bedroom double storey house with backyard and front garden when both kids moved out.

Parents sold it just after I graduated University. In the 7 years since it's more than doubled in value. Thankfully it's still standing, but I'm not sure for how long, as the whole area was rezoned for townhomes and a developer will probably come along in the next few years to buy up the land and redevelop.

No, and right up until I finally returned to the place a year or two ago I hadn't been there since we had to leave around 2002. The place used to show up in my dreams, frequently. I'd dream about always going back, I'd be walking there, in my neighborhood. I'd be walking down the road to it. I'd be at the front door. I desperately wanted to go back. I always wanted to go back home, even if it wasn't really 'home' anymore.

Then, I finally did. And I stepped outside the car, looked around, and immediately burst into tears. I had this overwhelming urge to knock on the front door, and go inside.

I dunno, I look back on it the way I look back at other good things from my childhood that aren't so anymore. My life has pretty much been over since I was thirteen, or so.

I did kinda glaze over that part. Still, it's my childhood home and it ended up being the only house either of them ever owned. I look back on it more so than any apartment that came after.
