Board 8 > How would they do in a contest? Day 102 ft Robocop, Katherine, Barry Burton

This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if there is a compelling reason for both characters to be linked (either co-starring in a game ala Banjo & Kazooie, or always appearing together like Callie & Marie from Splatoon).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

Mid Fodder for Robocop. I don't see too many people really caring about him, and none of the Robocop games seem to be good. His design is the only thing that will stand out in a match.

Barry is High Fodder thanks to his classic cheesy dialogue from the OG Resident Evil - "You were almost a Jill sandwich!"

Katherine probably isn't as well-liked as her C counterpart but definitely does have her fans. Her conservative design also prevents her from taking advantage of TJF. I say Mid Fodder for her.

Robocop (RoboCop) - Low fodder

I doubt Robocop has a particularly high watchrate. That might be colored some by the fact that I haven't watched any of his movies either though.

Barry Burton (Resident Evil) - Mid fodder

Jill Sandwich and being sort of recognizable to anyone who's played RE1 (he's not very memorable outside of Jill Sandwich though) keeps him out of the basement but I don't see why he'd be worth much.

Katherine McBride (Catherine) - Low fodder

I don't think Catherine's a strong game at all and while Catherine herself can probably use TJF to beat mid fodder (worked against Neku in 2013!), Katherine's gonna have no such luck.

Robocop: Low fodder. I almost never see anyone on this site talking about his franchise. He has no presence in gaming, either. I don't see anyone caring about him.

Barry Burton - High fodder. Jill Sandwich memes alone give him enough popularity, as does the fact that he's from a franchise that usually advances multiple characters in a contest (though they never seem to go deep). Him being "Jill Sandwich Guy" is more than enough to beat up on Low and most Mid Fodder.

Katherine - Low fodder. Agree with Axem. Her C counterpart is the only character from the game that isn't Low Fodder (because 1) Laura Bailey and 2) she's hot [that's TJF, right?]). Persona characters tend to be High Fodder, so why would an Atlus side experiment fare any better? It won't.

Barry Burton - Low Fodder

I dont think the Jill sandwich will help him much. Despite it being well known, not everyone will know who delivered the line, and those who do will most likely be fans of the series and vote for him anyway.

Plus (not that this matters, but) he ended bottom of the low fodder rankings in MetalMinds post CBX character rankings thing.

There's nothing there besides design to get people to vote for Robocop, and that's awfully pass on the GameFAQs of 2019.

Barry certainly isn't going to be as strong as Claire (who is probably better post RE2-remake than in 2018, to be fair), but he's memorable enough among series players to not be Low Fodder.

To be fair, that was bottom of the Newcomer Snubs, and I would argue none of those characters was Low Fodder.

As for Katherine, TJF is why Catherine's worth much of anything. Atlus also has a pretty low baseline in these things, seeing as Persona characters have usually been Mid Fodder (besides Joker, who barely reached High Fodder).
