Both of those are opinionated matters. Since there isn't an almighty, who is really to decide what justice is?

You can try to force issues into simple black and white, but that isn't how things work.

It really depends on the level of escalation, if you retaliate in a Draconian manner and start doling out death sentences over minor offenses that's pretty evil but if you simply behead the man that immolated your entire village that vengeance is just. In fact on that scale you're pretty much obligated to get some kind of revenge, you could probably force him to watch you forcefeed his wife her own children's flesh and organs until her stomach ruptured while slowly peeling his skin off and still only be considered as going slightly too far at worst in that scenario.
