Doctors, lawyers etc all spend several years learning because they are in charge of helping and saving people, using medicine and legal counsel respectively.

Should cops spend several years training?

Yep, though abolishing the police is the best option of all.

Funny how cops are smug even when stopping a lawyer and pretend to be the keepers of law.

6 months?

Lmao

lawyers don't protect anyone... they fleece people out of their money. judges are responsible for handing out good verdicts.

Laws are constantly being changed and added. Not even lawyers are going to memorize every obscure law. Some citizen googling some obscure law and taunting some cop on camera doesn't mean that the cop is uneducated.

yes, but realize that will mean less police on the streets in a country that can be considered already under policed.

no. During police academy they learn all they need to in regards to laws and upholding them. They then have Project 48, where every 3 years they need to accrue 48 hours of continuing education covering all aspects of law enforcement not including every 6 months going to the gun range and making sure they pass qualifications. Why should they spend more time in the academy if there is nothing more to be instructed on?

Also, to point out; lawyers and doctors have to be taught all aspects of the profession. A student going to law school that intends to be a criminal defense attorney still has to sit in and pass other law classes (Eg. real estate law). Would-be doctors wanting to focus on a specialization still have to attend other branch classes than the field they want to work in.

Yes, but also pay them what doctors/lawyers make.

Same goes for teachers, drastically increase pay but also drastically increase qualifications

Yes, police should be trained for longer. But it might be better to just scrap the program entirely at this point. Im not sure what anti-2nd Amendment advocates will do to protect themselves, though. Maybe swords?

I agree to a certain degree. Also when police commit crimes or interpret the laws in their own way that should be mandatory hard jail time. No self investigation
