Iran says it is not behind Saturday's drone attacks on oil plants in Saudi Arabia, denying accusations from Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that Tehran was responsible for "an unprecedented attack on the world's energy supply."

Javad Zarif, Iran's foreign minister, said in a tweet on Sunday that Pompeo was turning from "max pressure" to "max deceit."

Houthi rebels in Yemen, who are allied with Iran, have claimed responsibility for the attacks, and said 10 drones had targeted oil installations in Abqaiq and Khurais. Both are owned by state-owned Saudi Aramco.

Despite the Houthi claim, Pompeo on Saturday placed blame on Iran, accusing Zarif, and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani of duplicity.

"Tehran is behind nearly 100 attacks on Saudi Arabia while Rouhani and Zarif pretend to engage in diplomacy. Amid all the calls for de-escalation, Iran has now launched an unprecedented attack on the world's energy supply."

Pompeo also said there was nothing to back the Houthi claim of responsibility. "There is no evidence the attacks came from Yemen," Pompeo said.

DUBAI (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump told Saudi Arabias crown prince that Washington was ready to cooperate with the kingdom to protect its security, following drone attacks on Saudi oil plants on Saturday, state news agency SPA reported.

Trump also told Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in a call that assaults on Saudi oil facilities had a negative impact on the U.S. and global economies, SPA said in an Arabic-language statement.

Hopefully, this doesn't lead to the US going to war with Iran to defend Saudi Arabia, because this isn't our fight and seeing as how Saudi Arabia already spends $83 billion a year on its own military, 8.8% of its GDP. As a fraction GDP, no other country spends as much. All of their weapons are supplied by the US. Why do they need our help against Iran?

Of course Trump would blame Iran. He still thinks war with Iran is a good idea.

Rebels in Yemen took responsibility, so why is it that every news article I see says "Iran Bombs Saudi Arabia" in it?

I mean, I know the answer, but still. You expect me to believe that after the same people that were pushing for war when Iran shot down an invading drone?

The US can get their dick out of the Middle East.

Yeah, you know who's allied with the US?

Saudi Arabia.

But we're not Saudi Arabia. And Iran is not a group of rebels in an allied country.

I'm not commenting on you're article directly.

Was obviously from people in Yemen considering what Saudi Arabia is doing to them. Trump isn't satisfied with bombing just eight countries at any given time, apparently.

They take Iranian guns but the Houthi rebels follow their own agenda.

They're more or less directly behind funding the most militantly radical sect of Islam, which in turn is pretty much the leading factor behind most of the Islamic terrorism of the last 50 years.

But they've got lots of oil, so pretty much every President since Truman has sucked their metaphorical dick.

Though that's arguably an extension of really poorly thought out British foreign policy, which started during WWI. The UK was so terrified of post-war Russia and France becoming a threat to their hegemony in the Middle East that they helped cause a lot of the destabilization that has made the Middle East so damned chaotic for nearly a century.
