My fianc was working two part time jobs(40-50hrs) when she got sick. Had to have emergency surgery, and ended up 27k in debt.

The hospital absorbed most of the bill, she owed 9k after it was all said and done.

9k is better than 27k, but still a hefty bill just for getting sick.

My sister in Canada was at the emergency room yesterday. She had extreme pelvic pain on her ovary and was worried it could be a burst cyst. She spent 12 hours at the hospital without being seen. She ended up giving up and going home.

Im all for making healthcare affordable but keep the government out of it please.

They fix it but if you don't pay your bill, they send it to a collector and freeze your credit. Some may even sue.

Sometimes the hospital can bill the local government for medical expenses on people who can't pay

Depends where you live. I had an elective surgery last month. I was able to schedule a consultation within half an hour of calling my doctor and had the surgery two weeks later.

After you spend this amount on deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance, your health plan pays 100% of the costs of covered benefits.
