This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if there is a compelling reason for both characters to be linked (either co-starring in a game ala Banjo & Kazooie, or always appearing together like Callie & Marie from Splatoon).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

Deadpool (Marvel) - High fodder

Between the movies, Marvel vs. Capcom, and screencaps, most voters probably know who this is at this point. Does that mean people will care? I'm skeptical. The 4th-wall breaking edgey memelord thing seems a little played out in 2019 too.

Piranha Plant (Mario series) - Mid fodder

Smash or no (and this was not really a positively recent inclusion from what I recall), it's still just a generic Mario enemy.

Hector (Fire Emblem) - Mid fodder

Lyn got the Assist Trophy and her design and early introduction probably helps out among people who haven't played the game much or who only got sort of it into it but Hector was always the easy favorite among fans.

I say Fodder Line for Deadpool. He has always been an extremely popular Marvel character and the movies are well-liked. Plus his 4th wall breaking will probably come up in the form of meme threads if he appeared in a match.

Pirahna Plant isn't just a generic enemy, it's a generic Mario enemy. I say High Fodder.

Agree with Mid Fodder for Hector.

Deadpool: High Fodder. Ryan Reynolds certainly helps his case, but his video game impact is negligible. He hasn't "always" been popular - he just has been since the movies focusing on him made him into something new. And without a video game tie-in, he's not going to kick the amounts of ass that Spider-Man would.

Pirahna Plant: I mean, it's not Petey, who could pull better numbers, so I'll just say barely High Fodder. People know who this is, too.

Hector: Definitely Mid Fodder.

Deadpool: Agree with Fodder Line. He holds a strong place in young male-skewing pop culture, only further enhanced by the movies.

Piranha Plant: Agree with Mid Fodder. I think I've rated enough generic Mario enemies that people know my stance already, and if anything, Smash might actually produce some antivotes from petty voters annoyed that the Plant took up a spot that totally could have been devoted to their favorite. Even if not, we've seen enough to know that Smash isn't a substantial boost, and it would need to be to make a generic, not-top-tier Mario enemy High Fodder.

Hector: Agree with Mid Fodder.
