... their behavior?

Like knowing your words were a part of making someone a shit ton more depressed or self conscious or what have you, even to the point of making someone suicidal.

I'm not naive to think people care about what they do to others, but at least in a "my actions have consequences" kind of way.

Probably not. Some people are just miserable, irredeemable bags of rat shit at their core. They need to condescend to feel better about themselves, so I doubt they'd really care about what consequence would come from the condescension in the first place.

Like, the fact theyre that overwhelmingly shitty basically guarantees they wouldn't care if they knew they actively ruined someone's week.

What about legal consequences? IIRC there have been cases where someone was implicated in another person killing themselves.

The only case I can think of explicitly involved a girl imploring a guy to kill himself, and when he wanted to back out she called him a coward

I think some is justification to push for laws that are harsh on such things. If we can prevent suicide, even by means of "forcing" people to be nice to each other, it will be worth it. Pushing for legislation over words is morally questionable to many, but the bigger picture is preventing death. Freedom to live, though perhaps a touch paradoxical in the context of someone being suicidal, is arguably more important than being able to say whatever you want to people.

If they're in your life and not online, then they could see the consequences. Online though? People go out of their way to offend you, especially if you let them know it offends you. Remember the saying, sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me. Whats big now is the whole "talk shit get hit" thing. If someones words make you so angry that you'd commit violence against them you are a mental midget.

Only if they felt they might actually suffer consequences.

Look at the CoD swatter incident.

I don't think that exchange would have gone down if they thought they would get arrested for certain and it would definitely have gone down if they knew they would get away with it.

Yeah I dont think its something that can be handled easily. It definitely can backfire but I just dont think it does society any good to allow people to cause harm on others without consequences.

Yes, I like to think so. I think most people are basically good, and don't like to cause others to suffer. The issue may be mainly a lack of empathy, but if you could force a little empathy into them (making them see and feel the consequences of their actions) they would try to avoid causing pain.

I'd like to know this as well, I've seen the screenshot of him wishing another user would die in a fire. If that user ended up dying in a fire, smol could be implicated

Legal reasons aside, it's a horrible thing to wish on anyone. He clearly doesn't understand the severity of a statement like that.
