This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if there is a compelling reason for both characters to be linked (either co-starring in a game ala Banjo & Kazooie, or always appearing together like Callie & Marie from Splatoon).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

ms. pac-man: high fodder? Probably slightly weaker than pac-man.

Gilgamesh: Fodder Line. Has advanced one and a half times (the half being the Rivalry Rumble, but I don't really count that one). He did well in 2013 because of a good draw, but he did get over 50% of the vote in a 3-way and that boosts him. Given the age of his game, I see him staying about where he was before.

Adol: Low Fodder. I don't see much about Ys around here, and I don't think very many people will recognize him.

Ms. Pac-Man: Fodder Line. Pac-Man advanced last year, likely due to the Undertale anti-voters, and narrowly lost to Drake in 2013. I personally see little difference between the male and female variants in terms of contest strength due to the two of them having so little difference in character. We have no true data of Ms. Pac-Man - she's only made a contest once, losing to Mega Man in 2002, long before Mega Man dropped to Near Elite - but I think people just forget to nominate her because they forget she's a different character entirely. If they're reminded, those people might throw her a vote. Enough to barely eke out Fodder Line.

People in the west didn't start even remotely caring about his franchise until the 2010's and even then it's been largely confined to portable games and Steam. Throw in a fairly generic RPG hero design (which given his franchise's age he has some excuse for, it's just not going to help him in a poll) and good luck winning a match.

Also he looked abysmal in 2013. Maybe him and Vyse hurt each other a little and maybe he'd be a little better now but he's still clearly low fodder.

Ms. Pac-Man (Ms. Pac-Man) - Mid fodder

Man, what do you even do with a character like this? Everybody knows her, nobody cares. I do think she'll be a good deal weaker than even pre-Smash Pac-Man. She's just not the icon. But on the other hand I'm pretty sure her 2002 result where Mega Man got 92.3% on her was SFF; the 2002 bracket was filled with terrible fodder and she still ended up 2nd to last in the x-stats. That'd be around LAW fodder levels of bad and that just doesn't sound plausible.

I'm just going to guess she's weak but not completely terrible and call it a day.

Agree with Axem on all 3. Adol is barely out of LAW tier and Ms. Pac-Man just doesn't strike me as a character with strength. Pac-Man has smash and an icon status that the Ms just doesn't.

I wasn't aware that people differentiated Pac-Man from Ms. that much. Change my vote for her to High Fodder then.
