This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if there is a compelling reason for both characters to be linked (either co-starring in a game ala Banjo & Kazooie, or always appearing together like Callie & Marie from Splatoon).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

Low fodder for all

Trump would be very nonlinear, probably putting up pretty similar numbers against any opponent (and I assume that number would be well below 50%). He could probably get beaten by Tanner and still put up 20% or something on Link.

Goemon: Low Fodder. Don't see much of a reason why people would care.

Aang: Low Fodder. I don't know. I really don't. Could be swayed to Mid.

Trump: Low Midcarder. The likelihood of a troll rally for him is astronomical. The likelihood of an anti-rally in response is also astronomical.

I agree with this, though I could maybe be convinced about Aang being Mid Fodder, depending on the argument. I'm also worried that some dark corner of the internet would rally Trump to a win just to spite GameFAQs, something which I'm going to assume wouldn't happen for the sake of rating.

I took this into account for mine. If I didn't, I'd put Low Fodder for the Donald. A GameFAQs-only vote would be highly unfavorable toward him.

Low Fodder for Goemon. The Mii costume in smash is the most relevance he's had in 15 years.

Mid Fodder for Aang. Avatar is a bit younger than ideal to appeal to Gfaqs voters, but it is still a very popular series to this day. Aang is the main protagonist, but I think he is less popular among the fanbase than other characters like Zuko. There have been Avatar games but it's unlikely many on the site have played them.

I will say Mid Fodder for Donald Trump. I think some supporters on Gfaqs will try to round up votes for him, which will succeed to a small point. It won't turn into a Draven-like rally, but it will counteract the expected antivotes enough to get him over a weak fodder character.

I'm still going to say no to this one. I don't see the reasoning for including them together besides being together in the name of the game. Sonic and Knuckles aren't partners and don't particularly cooperate well. I'm allowing Mario & Luigi because they specifically work together in the games.

I think there's a greater than 0% chance that Donald Trump tweets out the character battle poll he's in and completely breaks the site, and I'm not even making a joke or trying to be funny about this, I think it's an actual consideration that needs to be made

High Fodder for Goemon. He was the star of a long running, moderately popular series, and there is at least one entry (Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon 64) that stand out as strong and memorable. I don't see him beating anybody with real strength, but he shouldn't lose to gutter trash.

Low fodder for the other two. The President's only chance of winning this vote is a rally, since GameFAQs has soured on meme characters. With the low traffic and low cultural currency this site commands today, I'd be shocked if anyone even bothered.

(As an aside, thank you halfsilver for counting my vote in the last topic. I checked the lists for the others; don't know why I didn't check for her. Sorry for the trouble.)

As I said, I do think there's a great chance of such a rally, and it's even absolutely possible that Trump himself retweets the GameFAQs poll he's in. However, I would still argue the single most likely scenario, and the one I voted on, is as LotM said.

Pretty sure I never nominated Marvin. I read the books but I don't think the rest of gamefaqs is gonna be very familiar with the franchise and I figure he'd be LAW fodder.

Also, I get that's apparently his official name but I don't recall him being especially paranoid in the books? More just depressed.

Goemon (Goemon) - Low fodder

Main character of a long-running series, most games of which did not leave Japan and to this day still lack translations. The first N64 game sorta popular and notable at the time though.

Aang (Avatar: The Last Airbender) - Low fodder

The average gamefaqs user was 18 when this show started and while he's the main he's not a lot of people's favorite character in the franchise so what he can do here is probably gonna be pretty limited, despite his cartoon having been wildly popular. Naruto has those same qualities (A:TLA actually predates the Naruto dub) but I think I wanted him to be mid fodder and I'd take Naruto > Aang so yeah I guess low fodder it is.

Donald Trump (The Apprentice) - Low fodder

If outside people actually cared about our little contest, them and Donald could crush our contest like a twig for the lulz. I don't think that's likely to happen. But it could!
