I'm underpaid for what I'm doing, but at the same time, I'm at a comfortable place, and don't really want to rock the boat.

When I used to work for companies I never had to ask for one. They recognized my value and bumped up my income every six months. It wasn't bad money, but there came a point where I had to focus on my side jobs over the companies to the point where I had to go solo.

Just make sure whenever you ask for a raise you have a number in mind and have data/work to back up why you think you deserve a raise. As long as you do the worst case scenario is they say no.
