Both teams played pretty bad tonight. The Packers played worse, but no guarantee the Lions were winning that game if all the right calls were made.

Obviously I'd be pissed if I was a Lions fan, but there's still a lot of season left to be played, so this game may be irrelevant by Week 17 anyway.

On defense, it's only a penalty if they're all on the field when the ball is snapped.

I wouldn't necessarily believe something a random internet dude posts though if no serious sports person is backing it up.

The 13 players thing only holds on special teams before the ball is snapped and they're in formation. There were plenty of issues with the officiating last night, but that wasn't one of them.

I can see the dpi being missed late in the game, but those two penalties on Flowers for hands to the face were absolute garbage, and the Lions were robbed. And this is coming from a Packers fan (hello to any other Wisconsinites here!)

It's still nice to be on the right side of bad calls for once after the Fail Mary and the phantom roughing the passer calls against Clay Matthews every game to start last season, but that doesn't change the fact that officiating screwed the Lions.

Difference between a win and loss last night is the difference between first and last in the division. So I'd say it isn't really irrelevant. It may end up that way like you say but at this point it's pretty massive.

Packers 5-1 and Lions 2-2-1 is a pretty large gap now. Packers 4-2 and Lions 3-1-1 is significantly closer

Look at the Fail Mary. If I recall correctly, that cost the Packers a home playoff game. One game early in the season might not seem like much, but with the NFC North being the best division in football, that was a huge swing.

Yep. The Lions reputation gets them over scrutinized and they look for penalties to call on them. Every sport has teams that are treated differently.

We can have robot umpires but we can't have robot officials in the NFL. They'd call offsetting holding penalties on almost every play.

At least one Lions player isn't keeping his trap shut.

While there were a call and a no-call that benefited the Lions, it was the 2-3 BS penalties that favored the Packers that tipped the game... as well as the Lions' inability to get a TD, mind you. But the penalties decided way too much when the game was on the line, and the refs' increasing involvement is a major reason why I don't really care about the NFL all that much anymore.

And remember this is coming from a Packers fan, who has every reason to celebrate a 5-1 record after the nightmare that was last season.

Lions are 5 games into the season, and I wasn't impressed by either team last night is all I was really trying to say there. It has the obvious potential to screw the Lions late in the season, but I'm not convinced either of these teams are Super Bowl contenders.

Looking at the Lions schedule now though, I see what you mean, as they have at least 4 games left that I'd assume as of Week 7 they'd be favored to win.

They announced the XFL QBs today, and we get the glorious return of Matt McGloin.

honestly the Titans never made a serious effort to invest in Mariota's development

they never hired offensively minded coaches and he's literally had a different offensive coordinator every single year of his career, not a one of them attempting to cater to his skill set

maybe he could still pan out if he lands in the right spot after this but I think his time in Tennessee is about up
