Like flat-earthers.

If they're really such logical, assured, firm believers in their vision, how come they can't refute anything without having to bring up "THE CONSPIRACY TO SUPPRESS THE TRUTH" at least once? Claiming "the cabal" is hiding the truth and thus they must be in the right ruins any shot they have at being taken seriously by the rationally minded.

Like my friend who is an airline pilot said about this one time he got into a debate about chemtrails.

Debating with logic, facts and science to counter the conspiracy person, they had nowhere else to go but "WELL THEY WOULDN'T TELL YOU ABOUT THE CHEMTRAILS"

They do it because they have nothing.

It's easier to blame others than to admit being wrong. Throw general idiocy or a severe lack of understanding of things into the mix, and what you have is a mess that only gets worse the more you pay it any energy.

It's because they cannot accept the truth. They refuse to. They want something to be true SO BAD that they are willing to disregard truth, facts, and logic. By shouting about group(s) conspiring out there to suppress it means they know they are wrong, but can't acknowledge it.

Because a cover up is a convenient magic wand to wave over all of the evidence against their stupid ass theories without actually having to argue against the evidence or even look at it logically for themselves. If they had to actually look at the evidence and try to explain why it's wrong their own beliefs would likely fall apart. It's the equivalent of sticking their head up their ass so they can't hear the truth.

To me it seems like the ultimate catch-all for both sides.

For the nutjobs they get to end their argument with "ANYTHING I CAN'T EXPLAIN IS SIMPLY BECAUSE THE CONSPIRACY IS HIDING THE EVIDENCE" and to everyone else, that's when they know it's time to check out.

Well they feel dignified anytime we find out about a conspiracy that was real.

Problem is the internet is putting a bunch of trolls out there and these people don't know how to tell jokes from reality and believe anything.

It might be more believable if they could at least explain the conspiracy itself, even if the evidence that they need is supposedly being tied up by said conspiracy. But instead they can't give any clear explanation of the conspiracy either.

Yeah, when they can't even explain why there would be a conspiracy it kind of hurts credibility.

Trust me. The people behind conspiracies aren't suppressing knowledge of a flat earth, contrails or lizard people. They are getting people to take physically damaging pharmaceuticals, to support earth destroying companies and to elect those to further their insane agenda of wealth accumulation at the expense of our planet and our well being.

It goes both ways: cover ups had to cover up something. Claiming youre right and the fact you cant prove it means theres a cover up really means you cant produce anything that validates your point. So then the onus becomes proving the existence of the effort to suppress the information. Failing that and you have nothing. Continuing to argue after that will get nowhere.
