Sky especially. The only major criticism I have is that the dungeons can feel very samey, as the only real things differentiating them are the music, tilesets, Pokemon, and items, but it's really not that big of a deal.

Yeah, Sky was definitely the peak of the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series, and probably the darkest the Pokemon series has ever gotten.

Too bad the series never got back to the highs it achieved with Explorers or even Rescue Team.

Gates and Super were still plenty dark. Gates still made me cry when I replayed it earlier this year, and Super easily has the best gameplay in the series, plus a postgame that feels like it has actual progression instead of just gaining meaningless points over and over again.

It's rough, especially for water-type starters. One of the big difficulty walls in the game.

Gates has a lot of issues, but I don't think its gameplay is one of them. It's everything surrounding the gameplay, imo.

The 3DS one sold poorly I think. I still think that really bad demo for the game hurt it quite a bit

There were two on the 3DS, and I can't recall which one had the demo, but the fact that Gen 7 didn't get its own Mystery Dungeon game is rather telling (that, and TPC seems more enthusiastic about mobile games now).

So many dark moments in this game, but oddly the one that sticks out to me the most is the Manaphy arc. Just imagine suddenly being thrust into the role of parenthood just to have to give that up a week later so the child can grow up healthy. And then the scene where they reunite with the hero and partner. Chills man, literal chills. I don't really see that kind of thing explored in a lot of games period, let alone a game for kids. >_>

There were two on the 3DS, and I can't recall which one had the demo, but the fact that Gen 7 didn't get its own Mystery Dungeon game is rather telling (that, and TPC seems more enthusiastic about mobile games now).

I still think it was due to Gates (that was the one with the demo), seeing as how Super was clearly intended to be the last one (literally having "DEFINITIVE" typed on gold on the back of the box)

I'm so glad this series still gets attention from fans.

I honestly prefer it over the main series, PMD2 is honestly one of my most replayed games.

Me too. I love the plots, and the soundtracks are amazing, imo.

I would pick Chimchar in EoS as a partner after I saw the anime special. :P

Yeah, I saw it recently, and hearing some of the characters repeating words at the end of sentences sounded weird to me. As well as how they announce what move their gonna use before they use it.

Would be nice if there was a full series based on the games, but not like the specials.

nope, you're remembering it 100% correctly, there even was a part in that arc where you wake up alone with your partner nowhere to be seen, and by that point in the game you live on a cliff...........
