That's about 1/7 recommended daily amount

And this is recommended under Taco Bell's "Food For All Lifestyles" poster thing

I mean 1/7 isn't terrible. I'm assuming your breakfast had no salt and if you go light at dinner you'll be fine

One soft Taco has 500mg of salt

Somehow

A beefy 5 layer has 1250 mg - a whopping 52% recommended daily amount

A double chalupa (the current $5 box main item) has 1010 mg

it's just one taco though. how many people get just one taco when they go to taco bell? no, you're getting like 2 or 3, with a side probably, and maybe some nacho cheese for dipping. that's gonna add up.

3 tacos should be reasonably enough food with no sides and that's still less than half the daily amount imo

are you trying to say a high sodium diet isn't unhealthy as long as you don't consume too much sugar?

Most of the research into high sodium in a diet did not control for the observed subjects' sugar intake.

your mistake is thinking that people order a reasonable amount of food when they get fast food

I'm not even arguing otherwise...

Salt wouldn't be a problem for people if they stopped eating so much sugar and refined carbs, and started getting more potassium (the opposite mineral to sodium) and other trace minerals like magnesium and zinc.

The body typically needs at least 2x more potassium than salt, yet most people eat 4x more salt than potassium.

Are there even that many studies on a high sodium diet? Hell eating too little sodium causes more problems.

interesting. i eat 4 bananas every morning, does that mean i don't have to worry about sodium intake? i don't eat a lot of high sodium foods, but i do have heart disease so these things are on the back of my mind.

Bananas are half-decent for potassium, but they have a lot of sugar as well, the average size one has 14g, and 4 of them is almost 60g, close to a 20oz bottle of soda. That sugar intake every morning is not doing any favors for the heart and liver. Better sources of potassium that are healthier and give you more bang-for-your-buck nutrition are avocados, broccoli, leafy greens, sweet potatoes, fish, beans, and from electrolyte pills or powders... not like Gatorade or Pedialyte, but an actual supplement.
