It could be a different metroid game I'm thinking of

SM does not force you to break any kind of glass.

I dont think any other metroid game does either.

Anyways here's the exercise for analyzing the intuitiveness: Make a spreadsheet with a list of all objects that power bombs can break in column A, and the # of instances of them in the game in column B. Turn it into a bar chart if you still don't get it.

Bonus exercise: Make a list of all breakable objects in the game in column A, and then for each one list the tools that you can use to reveal the weakness of the object.

I started this digression by calling it a spoiler. And you're saying I called it clearly intuitive. lol.

alternative:

1. consider how many spaces on the grid involve being fully surrounded by glass

2. ponder whether explosives can affect glass

...and again, the debate is not about whether it's intuitive or not. It's about whether it's...as you suggested...the worst designed thing in the entire Metroid franchise.

clearly the worst piece of level design in the entire series

This needs its own thread....perhaps thread series.

Pretty sure it wouldn't even win a vote for worst level design in Super Metroid!

like this is how this started. let's get back to this. lol.

These are just my points rephrased? I don't get it

And yes it is about intuitiveness since that is what you initially argued. But feel free to propose a worse design if you want to change the subject.

You seem to strongly correlate "good game design" with "every puzzle is equally intuitive"

And we're just going to disagree ad infinitum about that.

So, gg, /thread, best wishes, send my regards to the family, etc.

Like, nevermind that people (players a.k.a. end users) have come in here and praised/defended the design. Nevermind that it's unique and challenging. Nevermind that it created unforgettable moments for people that we're still disussing decades later. It is the worst thing they ever did because it wasn't as balatant as a giant blinky weak spot on the underside of a boss.

There's a decent amount of stuff in Super Metroid that isn't plainly spelled out for you but isn't weird to consider trying. Grapple beam to shock the Maridia boss is one that jumps out as even less intuitive than than the glass but it's so rewarding if you think to do it (that's another one 9 year old Lopen figured out-- though I think he may have done that by accident by mashing buttons while being grabbed).

I think as long as it isn't mandatory for progression, which IIRC the glass tube isn't and just gives you a shortcut, it doesn't really matter it's not obvious.

Like I would say the "why don't Super Missiles do anything" isn't really a sound argument. The destructible blocks and doors don't really follow that convention so why should glass or any destructible object. You can unload as many super missiles on a yellow door as you want and it ain't budging, for example.

I have included all of that in my judgment

You have refused to think about anything beyond your own superficial, ruined experience

You said gg so follow it
