The timeline is worthless if they wont put any effort into the lore.

Make exploring fun and make dungeons fun. I'll read a book if I want a good story.

The best Zelda "story" yet is still the one from 1986.

Why does Zelda need a deep plot when dark souls gets by just fine on loose small elements you have to discover yourself?

"There's macguffins in the dungeons. Go get them."
There you go. That's all the plot Zelda ever needed.

Sure, deeper interesting stories are great.

I personally like Link as a Rugged Shaman Swashbuckler more than Resourceful Gadget Boy. That's why Zelda II is one of my all time favorites, ...(see quote)

The mythology that's already been established is interesting in and of itself; that's what makes us want the lore to go deeper. There's a lot of potential to continue a really great story.

That said, the "fallen" timeline is utter bullshit. There should be a million different timelines by that logic.

Yulp.

I feel like you could even still sorta make it open world with this formula. I guess what I'd call a "layered" open world. Have a large percentage of the world (50% or more) open from the start, possibly including all, or at least most of the dungeons. Then as you complete a dungeon and find an item, you have access to areas and secrets that were just out of reach before. After you complete all dungeons and have all items, the entire world and all secrets are accessible. Doesn't seem like it'd be that hard of a system to implement.

Agree.

I'm one of the dudes who beat it without a guide. The way the world opens up to you is pretty damn perfect.

Over 98% of the world is technically open to you from the very start. Although there are large portions that you won't likely have access to on your first playthrough without outside help. The portions that I'm referring to are the areas that you likely won't be skilled enough to traverse in the beginning, or areas that you are supposed to acquire late-game info in order to access. Less than 2% of the map is actually intraversable until later.

That's what how the formula should be for all Zelda games.

Zelda doesnt need any more plot than it currently has

The very existence of the Zelda timeline has proven that is a lie.

Clearly fans are desperate for anything, so theyll take a complete nonsense timeline in place of anything meaningful or tangible.

Nah.

Keep it 100% open world including the order of dungeons.

We have had the get X item to progress since the beginning of the series. No reason to go back to that just yet.

Um yeah, that can be inferred. They've chosen to focus on three, that doesn't mean there aren't others.

How does the timeline not make sense specifically? I see a lot of people repeat this but no one ever explains what they mean (outside of pointing out very minor retcons).
