As a customer or as an employee?

If as an employee, that's at least 9 years too long

I remember Pun's first GameStop topic. IIRC, he had another job, was offered a position at GS, and accepted while originally viewing it as more of a side job.

Pun, real talk man. You and me need to have a discussion some point about other possible opportunities. I think you knew I was a PlaynTrade manager for 5 years before I entered library work. You could do well with libraries or recreation, have more job stability, better benefits, and probably slightly better pay.

I thought it was longer than that.

Anyway yeah that's how I feel when I hit an anniversary at a job. I almost made it to 10 at my previous one (and by almost I mean like, within days). I recently hit 2 at my current one that I said I wasn't gonna be at for more than a month while I found something better so yeah I dont feel great about that.

My district manager bought me lunch

I'm supposed to be getting something in the mail. "They don't know what"

and I'm supposed to get like, a certificate or something

I'm not being ungrateful or anything, i'm surprised they're even acknowledging it at all

but Yea, I dunno. Like I said I feel weird about this. I definitely did not expect to be here this long. but a DECADE?

I don't feel like I've wasted my time. A job is a job and I found a cushy one. I have a unique situation where I own the house, and other than annual taxes, I just pay for the utilities. So I was able to coast by

and yea, I have people skills I've developed over the years.

But still, this isn't what I saw myself doing. I DO like the job, I dunno if what i'm feeling is me being "unfulfilled" but I guess I'm just slightly disappointed. I'm thankful, and I'm not.

like I said, I'm just conflicted

I originally took this job on to get experience running a store because I wanted to open my own one day. But not only is my credit horrible, among other things, but this town doesn't seem like it needs a local game shop. I doubt it would work anyways unless its backed by a multimillion corporation like gamestop

so I sorta gave up on that dream. I feel like I settled with this job, its the next best thing.

I wanted to do my own things, but I guess thats life

wow I"m surprised someone remembers that lol

I was a Delivery driver for Pizza Hut. that fucking job paid like CRAZY. but it was at the expense of my car. And the risk of getting tickets because our DM was crazy and wanted crazy times. Thats exactly why I quit, I was like I GOT GAMESTOP NOW, BITCHES

that following year was rough

THEN the crisis with my dad and the house happened

I'm glad I got promoted through the ranks so quickly

I would advise taking a business class or two (Harvard offers free ones online), because no one just takes their personal funds to open a business. You create a business plan, pitch to investors/partners, get business loans (which are not tied to your personal credit), etc.

So yes, you can do whatever you want if you're willing to do research and hard work.

Man, I still remember the cookie girl posts, how long ago was that...

Anyways, congrats on the work anniversary! Your story kind of hits close to home, that feeling you're describing, whether it's "fulfillment" or whatever. Quarterlife crisis? Closer to mid-life in my case really...

In any case, I like the arcade idea and SephG's right - it's not too late and you're at a time and in a position in your life where you can explore that. So you don't look back at a future work anniversary and wonder what could have been!
