It depends. If I am drinking diet coke or any other super fizzy drink ice goes in last. With juice and other flat beverages ice goes first.

Ice first makes the most sense as it helps to measure so you don't get too much and prevent splattering since you aren't stupid enough to get the drink first.

The only time I pour the drink first is if I'm mixing some kind of drink powder because then the ice gets in the way.

This. If you were to do it the other way around for either, there may be splashing and thus, you'll likely have to clean your counter/table.

If you are putting it in water who cares. And it makes your drink cold which is what you are getting with the trade off. Also if you drink the drink fast enough it won't dilute it either.

Most people drink plenty of things other than water, you do realize. And unless you're gulping it down in about a minute or so (in which case you shouldn't WANT it to be all that cold anyway), ice absolutely will dilute what you're drinking.

Also, there are plenty of other ways to cool a drink that don't involve taking up half the glass with ice.
