You've already decided to leave the job. I wouldn't burn a sick day if do t have to. But if the potential job looks good them don't let the interview pass by.

At the end of the day, you have to do something to improve your circumstances. Companies don't do job interviews on the weekend, so stuff like this is often your only option. Unless your boss is an asshole, taking a sick day here and there won't hurt you, regardless of why you're taking a sick day.

yea the opportunity seems too good to pass up, it would be a pretty significant pay bump + title upgrade, it's a bigger company, plus the commute would be better

I would take the interview and don't tell anyone. If you don't take a lot of sick days, now is a great time to do it. Cold weather gets people sick this time of year. Maybe try and schedule for a monday after you got sick over the weekend?

yea i might do this if i cant sneak in a PTO day

but also think about it if they do offer you the job. you can go back to your current company and lay it out to them what youre being offered and see if they can come back with anything

it also sounds like a no brainer - but then it depends how the manager and team are like in the new company

also dont put yourself down like that. clearly you are good enough because they wouldnt have selected u for an interview. fuck imposter syndrome

I mean... it IS unethical. Youre lying and taking advantage of the company policy that you agreed to. Everyone saying that the company doesnt care about you is basically just saying it is ok to be unethical because they believe your company is unethical as well.

Thats merely answering the initial question. At the same time, its the right thing to do for yourself, personally. And you should do it.

What is unethical about it? Do you think that you should have to work at one company forever if you cannot schedule an interview with a different company on an off day?

id be nervous to leverage the offer because then im afraid ill be viewed as a flight risk, maybe i'll get a pay and/or title bump but then they'll probably consider replacing me long term. & thanks for the encouragement, i was chosen prob because my job is kind of niche but for the job desc, most of it is stuff i already do in my current role.

Fair, next. Companies give zero craps about their employees and would fire every single one if it'd increase their profits by a penny. You do you.

yea, the dept is actually restructuring now and they laid off two ppl on my team, thankfully i was safe. but everyone saw this coming a mile away

What's the deal with time off in America? I work a fairly regular office style job here in the UK (accountant) and get an allocation of 28 days off a year plus the major holidays like Christmas, new year and Easter Monday etc.

It seems like most of you guys are getting totally ripped off LOL
