That's the right point of view to have. Mitsuda's music is by far the best part of the game.

The body switching with a silent protagonist is very very dumb......

Chrono Cross suffers from Star Wars Prequelitis where the story is good, it just deserves to be in a better game. >_>

Also cut the core cast down to Serge, Kid, Guile, Sheena or Lena or whoever the childhood friend is, and maybe two or three others. And Razzly. And give them personalities beyond accents lol

Its been years but this is how I remember

Kill Boss 1. You get a few stat gain levels and then cant anymore until you kill Boss 2. Lets say you get 5 Strength and 3 Defense.

If you dont use Kid between Boss 1 and Boss 2, dont you miss those gains? So you have to level everyone up between bosses if you want to get all the gains and be crazy

Close but you're missing two important things.

First, when you gain a star level every character gets some stat gains. Then characters can get extra stat gains for completing fights up to a point, typically 5-6 fights worth of +HP and then a fight that grants a smaller amount of +stats than the star level gave. After that they have to get another star level to continue advancing stats.

Second, the amount of stat gains from each star level (and the "mini-star" between them) is NOT fixed, but instead is randomly determined and weighted based on the difference between the character's current stats and their "planned" stat distribution. A character who starts to fall behind becomes more likely to get more stat boosts from subsequent star levels. That means no character ever falls too far behind, and they catch up quickly when you start to use them (and conversely, even if you use a character obsessively they're unlikely to get too far ahead because they'll start getting smaller gains from each star level).

Oh, okay. See, I didn't understand that. I thought I had to go and level people up after each boss fight. Then go and level up another 2 and then another 2 before the next boss. I didn't know they would just catch up with better gains

I'm not an Arabian prince so I don't own this game for SNES.

But I do own it for DS. Yes, this game is a masterpiece and one of the few JRPG that appeals to my western sensibilities.

I like how you can abuse trap elements this way: set trap, catch element (it goes in your inventory), run, repeat. Fort Dragonia is so good for that strategy.
