The alien makes this game really dumb. Whether or not youre going for the no-death achievement. The only thing Im fearing is having to reload the game a thirty-fourth time before getting to the next section and reloading it thirty-three more times.

I never played past the first 30 mintues or so because you get to a room with enemies with guns and have to blindly sneak around and you're scrwed if they catch you and the last save was like 7 minutes behind.

Yeah you basically reload until you get a good run which isnt what a good game should be about. Theres no skill involved here. I was stuck under a table for about twelve minutes last night because the alien wouldnt fuck off, plus there were dudes with guns, which the alien eventually took care of.

I think the first hard part is when you encounter the Alien the second time at the Medical facility.

When I completed the game without dying, I found the best strategy to just push forward as quickly as possible most of the time(and saving twice on the save phones in case you didnt revert to last save before it was too late).

You cant save twice. It tells you to wait. So if you forget to grab something, every time you load that file you have to grab it again afaik.

Thats why you save, then go hide in the nearest locker or table like a pussy and then wait until the phone's light is green again and then save for a second time ; )

God knows how much time Ive wasted waiting around those phones.

Right now Im attempting to lock down the stairwell in M10. The nearest save points to me are about a one-minute walk from my objective and its one of those points in the game where the Xenomorph is scripted to appear frequently. Trying to collect the archive logs without backtracking later is tricky. The lockers do work on occasion. If only Ripley could hold her breath longer than ten seconds without taking physical damage.

Amazing game. Easily one of my top three this gen.

There's no luck involved at all, you gotta use the tools given to you. Toss a noisemaker or flare to distract the xenomorph and fucking run the other way. Never stop moving unless the xeno is on your ass and then hide only as long as it takes for it to move on to another room. Once you get familiar with the motion tracker it's very easy to predict what the xeno is going to do. The only time you ever have to hold your breath when hiding is when the xeno is locked into the "search" animation and literally looking into whatever you're hiding in. Otherwise you're completely safe to lean as far forward as you want and use the motion tracker.

There is an element of luck but you can work with it. I've played the game multiple times and did two no death runs.
One of my favorite strategies in a later part of the game involves smacking a wall so the xeno gets a room full of guys

I couldn't stand how the story kept dangling the carrot in front of your nose than yanking it away every time you get close to the point where after the first few times you know you're never going to get anywhere.

Also, after finding out your mom died to try and protect the universe at large, your character decides she wants to risk destroying the universe to save 1 person.

I mean as far as running/walking/crouching goes Im pretty sure I have that mastered. What Ive noticed is sometimes they see you and sometimes they dont. Different loads of the file seem to change the arrangement of enemies unless its a scripted encounter with the alien. For example sometimes it would pop out of a vent the second I loaded the file (so I would have to load the save literally two seconds after I just did) and sometimes I wouldnt encounter it for five minutes afterwards. At which point on at least one occasion I opened a door and it exploded in my face. Literally no other room has done this to me. Its down the ramp from the first large elevator you take, connecting that room to a terminal. Unsure what that was about but Ive avoided it since. Anyways, Im thinking a lot of it is luck because I hadnt even really had to use any weapons or distractions until chapter fourteen. I used one noisemaker to distract the android before cutting open the first vent after you get the torch and that was it. If I needed to get past a guarded area, where possible, I would run to get their attention, go around and then sneak by from the other side.

Currently Im having trouble hearing the aliens over the ambience partway through mission fourteen and keep having to reload. If I could hear them it wouldnt be an issue spinning around to fire at them.

@Blorfenburger
Proceed.

@TigerTycoon
That was annoying for me too. Its a giant fetch-quest and then they added logs and ID cards.

I like the game. Pacing is great. The mood and audio do their jobs at least for the first part of the game... I just think they could have done better with the alien in the way of movement/physics, and it could have disappeared for longer to (what we could assume) is investigate noises in other parts of the ship.

I dont know where exactly you are in the tunnel of spooks so I'll just start saying things.
Make sure you check all human bodies for items.
Keep the flame thrower out, watch out for facehuggers. Dont worry they're a scripted amount, and you can easily tell which eggs arent open yet. About 2 in the first main room with the first lever you have to pull. And some eggs, just watch your step. You only need one or 2 puffs of fire, dont blast. After the running ones are dead, shoot the eggs with the revolver or shotgun. Dont waste any bombs or special weapon ammo on them. I mean maybe flamethrower if you have it out already and there's a xeno around. But very first room that is unnecessary

After the first lever that made the spinny thing light up you'll progress through a tunnel. Then you'll start going down a hallway. At some point it turns to the left and at the turn you'll see a verticle tube light and a hiding cabinet. There's a facehugger after that turn. Kill it then go into the cabinet cause you'll be heard.
You may want to play aggressively from here on out.
If you don't already know these work to make the xeno run away: pipe bomb, fire bomb and rivet gun. Rivet is risky at first but I believe if you hit em once they'll remember that it hurts and will be cautious. Still come after you though.

Im restarting the generator in M17. What a lame section. Tiger is right. You power up the generator, run all the way around, throw a switch and the power goes down so you have to repeat what you just did.

As for this luck situation: Yesterday I was at a scripted scene in M17 near an air-hockey table while attempting to restart the same generator. I saved it before flipping the switch. Since the next scene is scripted I wasnt worried about being attacked, so I stood around waiting for the save point to reset. I did this so that when I flipped the switch I could then come back and save the game again to save fifteen seconds of time if I needed to reload. Well, I guess I saved the game while the alien was looking directly at me because every time I tried to load that file the thing would screech the second I loaded in and barrel at me. I couldnt get around this thing without having to use my flamethrower. I have about 700 fuel for it I just dont want to use it. There was nowhere on that path from the save point to the objective that the alien didnt drop down to ruin my day.

Well I just loaded the game up now, checked to verify the save file via objective - Restart generator. Guess what? Literally ran the whole way to the generator and the alien didnt make a single appearance. This was on the file that I saved where he was looking directly at me. So, maybe it isnt all luck, maybe its partially knowing that resetting the game somehow resets the AI in a save file.

Hey, thanks. The facehuggers are deadly for that One Shot achievement. One came out from some boxes unexpectedly but I torched it.

Ive kind of figured how it works. The alien is being super aggressive and baity now. The AI knows when youre in a room so itll jump up to bait you out thinking its clear, then jump back down seconds later. I know it doesnt know where you are until it sees you, but it does know that youre not going to hide forever. So the timing is usually pretty good.

Oh, rad

Yeah just had to get lucky in having the alien not spawn very often, which can be manipulated by loading the game at most points. Made it much easier.

Also, for anyone wondering, I did take a death, but it only affects the save file youre playing on, so if you load the previous save it wont count. Make sure to save over the bad file when you reload the previous save.
