Currently on a quest to complete my set after getting bodied by the first play in the High Stakes tournament several times.

Tbh, the biggest weakness of my cards was probably not having any Scorch. He always fucked me with scorch.

But honestly it's pretty fun collecting these cards. A lot less of a slog than expected.

It's funny, I haven't played this game since 2017. I got to the quest "Final Preparations" and stopped. I vaguely remember what's happening and what had happened in my 66 hours of play time.

And after doing a few quests, what do I want to do? Run around the map and play Gwent.

I've done it before, but it's a pain in the ass. Luckily, some of the cards you're supposed to win from characters can be obtained even if the plot advances and they're not there, like getting the Baron's card after his plotline, or Lambert's Triss card after Kaer Morhen's battle.

I'm close but I must be missing a few vendor/inn cards. I didn't explore all the isles.

I think it's not as bad since I've gotten a decent amount already, and I've got almost all the sign posts across the map. I was sure to look up missable cards before hand. I think I have all the cards from unique sources in the base game aside from the ones in High Stakes and the ones bought at a handful of inns. The remaining cards are just from the random pool.

Looking at it now it looks like I only have like 10 more random cards to earn, which is nice.

The last ones I needed were from the barkeep on Faroe. He might not spawn when you fast travel there, so you should run around the block a few times, then check.

Gwent makes The Witcher 3 such a complete experience. When you can say "well I don't feel like slaying monsters, or playing ANY quests. I'm going to play Gwent." The fact that you can just sit down and play another game within a game, that's something special.

One thing that's rewarding, is getting ALL the cards. Going around the world and finding people to play Gwent, earning new cards, and then being able to use that in your next game of Gwent--it's really a perfect game.

Got the base game collection complete. Feels nice. Coming back to the High Stakes game with the cards let me stomp everybody but Sasha (who took a couple tries).

I didn't use the list yet but I'm pretty sure I just need to buy some or talk to some merchants.

The tournament wasn't too bad for me. Spy/decoy usually did the trick.

Oh and a few weather cards. I just baited the a.i to skip/use some cards and then boosted my side.

if you include cow and decoying the spies they play and then using them as well; that's also my strategy.

I usually play the Nilfgaard faction with that power that lets you play (or is it put into your hand?) something from the opponent's discard. Easy way to get your spies back in later rounds, haha.
