Dont underestimate the US. This is what all that call of duty and fortnight training has been for!

I dont regret my decision after 8 years of service. Its a rough lifestyle but it had a lot of benefits.

Free college education and financial stability since you're living life mostly cost free. Most people that join don't ever see combat either

This. Especially if you join the Navy or Air Force. Screw joining the Army and Marines and becoming a mercenary for some orange clown. The benefits are pretty good like reduced mortgage and auto finance rates. Plus the veteran status you get were people treat you like a god every where you go even though you sat behind a desk for most of your time.

This and more. If you dont see the appeal other than some discounts and job opportunities down the line then you are probably oblivious and havent talked to a single person thats served.

Theres job security and financial aspects... wont ever worry about being laid off lol. The pay isnt half bad as active duty either. Depends on rank and time served but its several thousand a month and your only expenses are a cell phone bill and car payment. You wont ever be stupidly rich but you wont ever have to worry about money either.

Also travel as well. I know a few guys who went to South Korea and never come back lol. Then theres places like Okinawa or Fort Drum where fun goes to die... somebody places are what you make it out to be, like Guam. Ive never heard anyone complain about S Korea, Germany or Spain though.

Theres also the whole avoiding the grind up a down payment for a house from a VA loan too. Basically makes it possible to buy a house in this day and age if you live in a high cost of living area and dont make $120k plus.

Also fuckin lol at going to die or throwing your life away. Thats an incredibly ignorant and just plain stupid comment. You probably wont ever see combat unless you join army or marine infantry.

Just dont get sick though. As soon as they find out you came down with something they are quick to throw you out. My friend got diagnosed with MS and they threw her back out into the civilian world with no help. Just a crappy VA visit every month. She says the VAs are terrible. That's the only downside. If you get sick or retire it's like "thanks for all your years of service but good luck your on your own". Wish they would treat veterans better medically.

Theres prob a few details missing in this story and the VA can definitely blow.

Its important to keep records of every single medical visit and injury, scrape, minor ache, etc. not only because admin will undoubtedly lose track of your shit at some point but to also help max out your disability pay when you decide you want out and dont re-enlist.
