Your logic implies the only viable option is that the government pays for nothing. Because if you're going to say we can't have universal health care for example because it's socialist then we can't have any government-funded programs at all because they are socialist. In fact the government costs money so we shouldn't have that either. The world doesn't work like that.

And BTW, socialist means taking control of the economy, not taking part in a free market. That is why private security companies exist, but for most people it makes a lot more sense to just call 911.

That's why I disagree with people who think private insurance should be banned. The only way universal health care will be affordable is to also have supplementary private insurance like most countries with universal health care do.

They're talking about HIJACKING A FIFTH OF THE NATIONAL ECONOMIC OUTPUT and you're all "Hell yeah, that sounds good!" Leftists cannot be taken seriously be people who understand how numbers work.

I genuinely do not think that people who support Democrats actually pull down a pay check, because people with jobs are making out like bandits under Trump, and the Democrats promise things to people who don't feel like getting jobs.

Every government welfare program is socialist. Now, to what extent does one believe a specific program or service should exist is an entirely different story. Im not in favor pulling the rug and abolishing every single thing, Im in favor of as it stands in the present of having realistic budgets for these programs that are blowing out spending with the consequences that will ultimately fall on the shoulders of the generations of younger demographics. The reason public schools exist today is because society is better with them, although there are private schools if you want.

Healthcare is on the same level as education and there are enough problems with the current system that universal healthcare is something that should be tried. Again, this isn't a luxury that only high-tax countries have. The great majority of countries in the world and every first world country has universal health care - besides the US. That alone is reason to think that it is viable in the US.

Canceling student debt has so many problems to it that it is right to be criticized. Free college is not as bad as canceling student debt, but there are many other things that can be tried to improve college costs without going full free college. Universal health care is not like those two though. And compromising on it led to the half-assed Obamacare. Cost is obviously a concern and Warren's $5 trillion a year plan probably isn't going to work, but that doesn't mean every attempt at universal health care won't work.

Like someone said in this topic, someone who doesn't want to vastly change the country but is focused on changing healthcare actually has a chance to change it. Someone like Bernie is a jack of all trades and will end up as a master of none.

I don't know enough about social security to comment on it. I can see that it's not going to hold up for millennials and future generations, and I can believe that boomers are getting paid more from it than they paid into it. I need to see the numbers, though.

It's not a bad idea in principle, though. Look up the Government Pension Fund of Norway as well for something similar. .

This is a bold faced lie.

1. The current system is more expensive than Warren's plan.

2. The bulk of the money would come from killing off the ACA subsidies, not billionaires. This is fundamentally the "repeal and replace" plan that Republicans had 6 years to come up with but never did.

3. It's not a freebie. Warren's plan is a public option for Medicare.

4. There's going to be additional taxes collected by the middle class in the form of removing the insurance deductible you get from the ACA. It still ends up being a net positive because you won't have to spend as much.
