Facebook was created a few months before high school graduation, but wouldn't have been available to us anyway. I did get Facebook within a few weeks of starting college.

I wonder how it would have been with Facebook in high school. Or Instagram. I actually had to ask for phone numbers when I wanted to communicate outside of school.

i stopped using social media about 3 years ago, and i feel much better without it.

on facebook i hid literally every thing and everyone from my feed. so when i log in i see nothing there. i deleted all my personal information except for my name and deleted all my pictures.

with twitter and instagram, i still use it, but only to follow celebrities and other internet personalities. no real people i know in real life.

What was your experience like? I experienced a lot of racism on AIM sadly, but I do miss interacting with 100s of people, often 9 AIM conversations going on at the same time.

I did print out several of my chat logs in 1999-2003 though.

Spent most of high school without it. When I got to college is when facebook really took off.

Social media is a cancer on society. I'm off the grid mostly. I only use snapchat with close friends and that's it really >_>

Can't imagine what life as a teenager is with Facebook/Instagram/etc. It used to me you could leave the bullshit behind when got back home from school, but social media makes it so that it follows you. You used to be insecure if you didn't have enough friends to hang out at lunch with. Now you get low self-esteem if you have less than 1000 followers on social media.

Yeah, not just social media but forums and IM and stuff. I used to actually do creative things or at least get more worthwhile stuff done or spend more time with other hobbies with my spare time. >_>

Yeah I'm glad that stuff wasn't a thing yet. Plus I can imagine girls that I awkwardly had a crush on and could barely speak to (and thus never really did), I'd probably have gotten up the courage to send them some cringy FB message or something. >_>

I remember cameras with film and needing to wait a few days for all the pictures to develop. Sometimes they came out like shit and there was no way to retake them.

Then when I'd want to share these pictures with someone I'd need to either invite them physically to my home or I'd need to carry them to the meeting location.

Or when I wanted to see what my friend a few states over was up to, I'd need to call them on their land line and hope they were home. Only way I'd be able to see their pictures would be them to MAIL THEM to me.

Hail modern day tbh.

I didnt get Facebook until my first year of college in 2006. Im glad I didnt have to deal with what teens deal with now (cyber bullying, etc.).

I used FB a lot in college because it was new and interesting. The idea of sharing pics and messaging girls you recently friended was cool (who remembers pokes lol). But I got off FB many years ago and basically use it (along with instagram) to follow my favorite bars, restaurants, my gym, etc. so I know what events are coming up.
