You can stay 15 minutes later every day, you can work through your lunch break at your desk shovelling a sandwich in your mouth, you can reply to emails at home on a saturday morning, any number of above-and-beyond things you do in your job - all without comment or notice.
Equally, you can fuck around on reddit for 3 hours of your 8 hour work day, take 10 minutes over on lunch time, use and abuse company facilities and resources beyond what should be acceptable - still no one will notice. But turn up to work at 9:07 and all of a sudden there's meetings and serious discussions and everything. It'll come up on your review too. Look I know why it annoys you but even now a decade or so into my corporate career I still don't understand why this is the one thing people will always lose their shit over --- CE's Resident Scotsman. https://imgur.com/ILz2ZbV ... Ive worked for companies like that, though they tend to frown on lateness for lunch or breaks too. I work for a company now where they are the complete opposite, doesnt matter if you show up 2 minutes late or 20 minutes late just as long as you dont have a second of overtime.

my current company busts my balls over this too. I get to work somewhat late...like a little after 9:30 most days. The expectancy is that you're supposed to be in the office by 9. Mornings are a pain in the ass and I gotta drop my kids off at daycare so there's a lot of shit going on. I make up the time by being the last one to go home at 6:30 or 7 every night. Nobody pats me on the back for that though. I'm literally working a 9 or 10 hour day most days. Every other employee leaves by 5:30 or 6. When I try to explain how it all balances out and how I make up the time at night, they don't wanna hear it. Extremely frustrating. If I'm doing my job well, who gives a fuck what time I get in the office?

I can understand if you're in a shift capacity or you're on call or you're solo or really any capacity where you are expected to be answerable at a specific time and it's a problem if you aren't, but I don't think that's most people.

no. i'm salaried anyway so it's not like i need to clock in and out. I think one aspect is also that this kind of job is heavily ingrained in our collective consciousness. Like, jobs traditionally required you to be on time for a variety of practical reasons, and that kind of sticks in a lot of society. --- Stop being so aggressively argumentative for no reason. - UnfairRepresent ... Been like that my whole life. It's just insane to me that you can double everyone's work output or damn near, basically be a shining example in every way. But you're late a few minutes every once in a while, so instead of being in line for a promotion you're on the shit list and one final warning away from being canned. At my work webhave what we call flextime. 1 hour +- on our regular hours. Lunch is only 30 minutes but we habe 1 hour we can use for flex if we want so 1,5 hour max.
Ofcourse if you accept a meeting or something within that time you need to showup on time. Works great for my company at least. It was similar with college. You can be acing the class and getting 100s and know all the material, but if you don't fucking show up more than 2 days in a term, boom, there goes your grade. No excuses.
Some assholes would straight up cut the whole 10 points, making an A impossible. Like they thought people's lives outside of school just didn't exist. And they did this even with the older the people with families and careers and shit. Luckily, never really had this issue outside retail in terms of work, but there was always some anal shit that still bugged you. --- "Fear cuts deeper than swords." ... Copied to Clipboard!
