I really think the NWA screwed up by not editing that out when they had the chance. This episode was taped like six weeks ago. I mean if they really wanted Cornette around, they would have edited that out and told him to be more careful. Its possible that Cornette probably fought with management over his views of wrestling or his political beliefs as Cornette hates Trump and is more in favor of Democrats. The thing about Cornette is that he always gets himself fired. So its possible billy corgan or Dave Lagana just didnt want Cornette around anymore and just let this slide to give them an excuse to force Cornette design. I bet that is what Cornette will say on his podcast tomorrow on what went down.

He hated ECW because of how far it could get at times. He thought having hardcore stuff all the time didn't make it special anymore. And if going through a table gets old, then they have to go through 2, then 3, then tables set on fire or with barbed wire, then dives from the balcony. It goes too far and you can't pull back. It's kind of the same thing today with modern wrestling. There's too many flips and dives and craziness that the wrestlers have to go to such extremes to follow what came before to get a reaction.

To be fair, Jim wasn't being a heel commentator, but you're right. If a dumb, but innocuous joke can get people fired then how can any wrestler get any heat anymore?

Yea I remember when I first saw the Nasty Boys suplex some guy over the top rope onto a table that was outside of the ring.

Now it's like *yawn*.

Or what Randy Orton said a few weeks ago, but it's not really about racism and what's right and wrong, it's about punishing someone for wrongthink. People have been trying to get him fired for his opinions on a lot of modern wrestling and they just can't handle it. They tried months ago trying to make him out to be a sexist, but it didn't stick. They tried to make up some bullshit about him joking about suicide a few weeks ago, but it didn't stick. Now they got this and it worked.

Jim's definitely popular, but he's of a mindset that doesn't necessarily exist in pro wrestling anymore. Especially with the fans, the fans (and especially the smart marks) haaate Jim because he represents an era that modern smart marks loath. He doesn't care for the indie darlings, so they go after him. And like southern said, they finally got him on something and can now gloat about it on twitter and wherever else.

I personally fucking love Jim, it's just sad that he's such a target in this day and age.

I think the problem with Jim is that he has a history of saying dumb jokes and doing dumb shit. Since the NWA is trying to get a TV deal, they probably didnt want to deal with his baggage any more. The man has knowledge but he always shoots himself in the foot.

i dont really see how cornette can be pitied as a target when his gimmick is starting as many fights with as many people as possible for podcast views. sure, it's all bullshit, he will do massive about-faces on basically anyone if he actually starts working with them (half the companies he's worked with for the past 20 years are so are people who he's shit on endlessly prior to joining them), but still

when you start accruing heel heat in real life, people are eventually going to start cheering when the faces knock you down a peg for making fucking black people fried chicken jokes in 2019. he should stick to telling fun old wrestling stories and stay away from whatever that was

I just think the reaction is a little overblown, but you're right in that Jim has a whole history on getting heat both in wrestling and in real life. He still keeps the death threats from fans he received decades ago, just to name an example.

I'm not going to completely defend Jim, because it was definitely a loaded comment. He should have said something else, but NWA definitely had months to edit out the comment and didn't.

As much as he complains about indie wrestling and TNA, those are the two things he's been doing for a very long time at this point. He's a perfect fit for corgan NWA, which is like a vacuum cleaner that sucked up what was left of mid-2010s TNA that WWE and AEW didn't get (plus worlds angriest grandpa tim storm).

He's not going to go to WWE, probably because he knows he'd get booted really quick with his gimmick. And it's outside of his interests to go to AEW because pretending to be really upset at kenny and the young bucks gets him publicity. NWA was like the perfect fit for him, but with even that not working out I'm not sure he's ever going to really be doing anything except podcasts from here on out.

With some ingenuity and elbow grease, he could turn that vault of pro wrestling memorabilia he has into a museum of sorts. Charge for admission, etc. I'm not sure if the money needed to fund such a project is worth it, however.
