I would not use the term peer reviewed for wikipedia, as the term implies academic peer review.

"My mother says I'm special" doesn't make you peer reviewed.

I think it depends on the context. In a very general setting, yeah peer review has certain connotations. But Wikipedia does have quite strict peer review protocols, and it's clear from Rika's post that he's saying something more along the lines of "technically it is peer reviewed".

But yeah, Wikipedia's peer review is quite a bit more elaborate and deliberate than your toy example, as you well know.

Kind of, but kind of not. The requirements for appropriate citation are really off, and you'll find an abnormally large number of claims being cited from random webpages, some of which could have been written by my Mom.

Ive posted this story, and its been modded. Despite being, as I said proven by the world fucking health organization and it was modded and the reason were the mods views on the situation, not the facts. And it was in a relevant topic for whatever it was. Stated a FACT shown and it was modded.

I haven't been moderated in a couple years now but that is probably just because I dont feel the need to discuss this political stuff much anymore. From what it seems that is probs for the best. While some rules have gotten more relaxed over the past 20 years, it definitely seems like others have gotten outrageously strict.

This is fundamentally false. They are currently neither at their all time best or all time worst. They are in the middle. From my experience, they were at their best in 2001-2004 and at their worst within a few years leading up to when I closed my original main account, which was I believe 2011 or 2012.

I put the link, then the actual text, and I got flagged for the line that its still considered a mental disorder until 2021. (Maybe 2022, didnt read it again) and I got flagged and was told how far weve come since xyz and that it didnt matter. Its not been available to view, but they took that line and that was that.

True. But not all content on Wikipedia is equal. They have a classification system for 'good' and 'featured' articles.

No not really. It's reviewed by people who may be considered peers to each other but that's a layman's definition. Academic peer review is not the same thing as passing around a paper to your friends and being like "yo can you proofread this?"

In an earlier response to COVxy I posted a link where different quality levels of Wikipedia articles are briefly discussed.

Peer review is used in yet other contexts. Often software companies do code reviews. These are peer reviews. Again, Rika's statement is a very "Actually, technically" kind of statement, deliberately removing the connotation to make a light quip.

And I will say that it's a little embarrassing that you quote my post where I make the stupid dictionary error :(

I wouldn't equate transphobia with questions of legality. It's fair to call people by whatever gender is in their personal ID.

If you want to do more than that, like simply use their preferred pronouns regardless, then that's your personal decision. I for one call them like I see them.

You're right, but that's not what I'm responding to. I'm responding to an aggressive, condescending comment (that happens to be incorrect) by RebelElite, made to a lighthearted "well, at least this much of the post is *technically* correct" jibe. Glad we are on the same page.
