I've pretty much been doing a routine of 1x5 working with a bunch of warmups, all overhand grip, and it's been fine for me. But I've been thinking of changing things up a little by increasing volume and moving to a mixed grip for higher weights. Something like warmup sets, and then maybe 2 3 or 4 sets of 5 reps, switching hand mix each set.

What do yall do? How many times a week? Any testimony on what works best for you?

Side question: How intricate is your routine in terms of changing things up every session? I've seen so many routines that change up 1RM% and reps and sets every time and it seems silly and unnecessary to me but you can't really argue results.

I only deadlift once per week since I find the risk of injury to be too high despite good form. I do warmups as well. Ill load up 1pl8 and do 2 sets of 5 reps to make sure my form is good. Once thats done, Ill set the weight to 185 lbs and do 2 sets of 5. Then 205 lbs and 3 sets of 3.

Once Im doing 225 lbs at 2 sets of 3, Ill change from overhand to mixed just to make the lift a little easier. Ill usually stop here unless I want to lift heavy for that particular day. If thats the case, Ill inflate all the number above and max out at 315 lbs for one set and rep.

May not seem like a lot of weight but Im not the biggest guy youll encounter. I only weight 125 lbs at 57. However, it works for me and I see results.

I try to do deads twice a week and I also agree that despite having good form it's still easy to tweak your back.

I stay at around 5x5 for deads. They're so heavy on the body and the nervous system they tax you fast. I stick to conventional deads too.

135 3x5

225 3x3

315 3x3

405 4x4

This was my latest routine for them. I don't even do accessory work because deads wear you out. I weigh 200lbs at 6'0''

There was a time where I applied the Bulgarian method to deadlifts for fun and was doing 95% of my max just to see what'd happen. It was brutal and it only lasted a month. Lol 1 rep maxing almost everyday around 455-465. Lol

sweet! if your 1RM is 315lb at 125lb bodyweight thats like... elite lol.

but yeah that's similar to where i wanna take my workout actually. when you look up deadlift routines people have all kinds of different ideas of how often to deadlift and how much. but i think just adding a couple sets/more volume is all i need. i deadlift 3 times per 2 weeks (Mon Fri Wed repeat)

ok cool another testimony for 5x5. its tricky to balance volume and intensity WRT recovery time. like i said in the previous reply, i deadlift 3 times per 2 weeks, but i think i could increase the volume. i only do warmup sets into 1 working set of 5, which is around 305lbs double overhand conventional stance. so i think if i switch my working sets to mixed grip and drop the weight a tiny bit, i can get like 3 working sets of 5.

weight lifting routines give me a headache DX

Only 125lbs? You must look really shredded with really low body fat.

Today I am coming back off a deadload and will do:

145x5

235x4

325x3

375x2

That will conclude my warmup. Then Ill do 415 3x5 and possibly stall on my last set.

Its a resting period at the end of a cycle where I cut weight in half for a week to allow my body and CNS to recover. Most intermediate/advanced lifters will have a scheduled deload.

For my warmup sets Ill do double overhand, except the 375 Ill do mixed. Then Ill just use my straps and belt for working set. (My grip falls off around 345 lbs for double overhand.)

Oh yeah for sure invest in a good belt. I use a single prong belt for when my lifts go past 365lbs.

Always safety first man.

yeah i have tight hips so my squat form suffers most, and then deadlift is ok but could be better. i've only ever done 1x5 of like 305 so far (double overhand) so i don't think im in belt/strap range yet but i should def consider that.

Belts dont actually protect you from lumbar injuries; they just help you brace and give a little power by allowing a wall for your abdominals to press against.

OK, so the first thing I do is put the bar on the ground. Then I put weights on both sides of the bar. Then I stand next to the bar and grab it. Then I use my legs to stand up and pull back on the back to stand up straight. Then I put the weights back down to the ground and start over.

When I'm done, I take the weights back off the bar, then put the bar back on the rack.

Broke a pr and hit my reps today. I am moving up to 420 now but I probably wont be deadlifting next week due to weird schedule/conflicts with Thanksgiving.

Savageeeeeee also learning to breathe and brace against the belt changed my life tbh. Chris Duffin had some good lectures on that topic.
