i don't have the new pokemon
but i was playing showdown

you're absurdly strong for 3 turns and a lot of the dynamax moves increase stat so even when you revert back
you can still be really strong
what were they thinking

okay just found out it also ignores, para, encore and confusion

I'm not sure what format you play as, but VGC seems decently balanced to work with it.

If you play singles idk what to tell you. The game isn't usually balanced for it, which is why Smogon makes it's own rulesets.

For in the actual game it's cool because it kinda makes little boss type experiences.

I mean, it can't be OP on it's own in showdown, since it's available to everyone.

It's clever from the designer standpoint, cutting down on resources while incorporating existing tech into something new, but it really doesn't feel good compared to either megas or z moves. It's too easy as an emergency button, and while the meta is now "don't blow it too early or you'll lose to it later", it's awful for randoms.

It only lasts 3 turns, and both trainers have access to it for any one pokemon on their team without being forced to use an item for it. It's meant to be a comeback move. If you yourself can't fight it because you did yours too early that's your fault. And if you refuse to use it balance it out that's also on you.

Have you played competitively? The current best strategy is hyper offensive Dynamax Gyarados with Max Airstream. Max Airstream buffs it's speed by half with every use so you have a buffed Gyarados with 2.5 speed once Dynamax wears off, in addition it's Moxie Gyarados so each kill only buffs Gyarados even more

i just dynamaxed a rhyperior

before that i rock polished to double my speed
dynamaxed it so i could take a grass attack
which activated weakness policy
and then finished the grass pokemon off with a max rock move that summons a sandstorm causing my special defense to go up and also passive damage
i took out 4 of his pokemon with just rhyperior
and the 5 pokemon was down to a sliver of health and was really slow

I am ehh on the dynamaxing.

It's neat for the gym battles cause it gives them a cinematic, larger-then-life feel to them, but from a gameplay perspective, it gets boring.

Basically you have an extremely limited movepool with no subtlety between them. Raid battles have gotten boring if you are the dynamax pokemon. What's the point of tailoring each of my pokemon's movesets if when dynamaxed they become generic type attacks?

So conceptually I like it but functionally I could do without.
