First PC build, deciding on whether to go 24" 1080p or 27" 1440 (144hz either way). I'll most likely be using a 5700xt, which is certainly a capable card, but with 1440p I won't be pushing quite as many frames and it means I will have to upgrade sooner.

I heard someone say that medium settings at 1440p is more visually impressive to most than max settings at 1080p, do you agree?

I have heard it makes a difference. I'm still stuck in 1080p 60hz land.

I would probably be perfectly happy with that seeing as I'm coming from 30fps console land, but I really want to see what modern tech has to offer. Also good 144 hz 1080p monitors are pretty cheap.

I mean it's most likely worth it.
You should upgrade in two or three years anyway. Mostly because by 2+ years you'll be able to get a staple card to last through the new console generation and tbh, even the 2080 ti is struggling to hit 4k at 60hz on max settings and when next console gen kicks in, it'll be getting worse.

I heard it is worth it. Just get a good GPU. Ask the PC board what the best deal for price is if that is a factor.

got a 2080.

i used to be part of the rare 1080p 144 hz camp with a 4k 60 hz monitor.

no longer.

i can barely tell the difference between 1440p and 4k. you get the high frame rate and the amazing graphics.

Hmm... that's kind of what I don't want to do. Spending $400 on a graphics card just to need to spend another $400 in two years. That's the price of two new consoles on GPUs alone.

I can't tell what you're trying to say here.
