For many scholars, Revelation 1:14-15 offers a clue that Jesus's skin was a darker hue and that his hair was woolly in texture.

As a Christian, it's impossible for me to perceive Christ without taking it at face value that he is the literal Son of God and that he was here to bring salvation. In that regard, his appearance is inconsequential. He wasn't here to guarantee better places in Heaven for those who most look like him. Salvation is universal.

In terms of historic accuracy, he probably had a darker complexion. The whole "Jesus looked Arab" thing is mostly just a bid to offend conservatives. And while I have no problem with offending bigots, I do take exception to using religion as a tool for offending people. If God is a woman, so what? If you say God is a woman to get a rise out of people, shame on you.

Uh, it's just fact based on the historical records of where he was born and where his ancestors lived.

If you have a problem with him having been Arab in ethnic appearance them you probably need to check your internalized racism.

He was Jewish not Ethiopian.

Sorry to say it but Jesus being black would have undermined his first priority.

That is, he came to attempt to persuade the jews to his cause before the gentiles.
The way for the gentiles wasn't open till after he died.

And the Jews of the time despised any gentile at all; white or black because of the old law.

They would only listen to a fellow jewish man.

Pfft. I could just as easily accuse you of claiming he was Arab because you have a problem with the Messiah being black.

That said, I wasn't targeting you specifically when I said that people used that claim to get a rise out of conservatives. That's also why I said mostly a bid instead of making it a universal statement.

All we can really be sure about is that he could easily pass for the son of two apparently unremarkable-looking citizens of the Roman province of Judaea, circa the first century CE. We know that because on several occasions, the Bible points out that the people he grew up around never really questioned his parentage, so his appearance must not have given them much reason to.

To modern eyes, he would probably have looked like a Palestinian: someone less savvy might say "Middle Eastern", which is at least general region. He almost certainly did not look very much like Cesare Borgia.

Jesus actually had a ton of followers.
The big wigs are the ones who arranged for him to die.

That is, many on the Sanhedrin Court. And several priests and chief ones and elders.
Basically the city police who could declare people committed blasphemy and have them killed.... except under Roman rule they required extra approval thus why Pilate entered the story.

Some on the Sanhedrin believed in Jesus in secret such as Nicodemus.

Edit: correction, it might been rather that they could not kill on the sabbath so they wanted pilate too instead.

We actually have his father's whole geneology.
Unless his mom was black, it would be out of place for their kid to be.

I get that his birth was miraculous so theoretically he could been blue skinned out of the womb, except that there is no mention of anyone doubting his lineage to both his human parents.

Exactly. And we have no idea what Joseph or Mary looked like, so they must have been pretty unremarkable. Thus, my assertion that he must have been able to easily pass for the son of two apparently unremarkable-looking citizens of the Roman province of Judaea, circa the first century CE.

I mention him probably looking like a Palestinian because apparently they're thought to be the closest modern phenotype to the people of that region at that time. Modern reconstructions of his face do seem to match.

As for Cesare Borgia: most modern depictions of him don't just look like a white guy, but a very specific white guy, and that's not an accident. Cesare Borgia was an Italian nobleman in the early 16th century, who otherwise would probably have been most famous for briefly employing Leonardo da Vinci as a military engineer. But his father was Pope Alexander VI, who started a big campaign of putting his son in pictures of Jesus in an attempt to bolster his son's reputation and chances of success. That campaign mostly failed -Cesare was overthrown soon after his father died- but the depiction stuck, and Cesare has been the face of Jesus ever since.
