Watchmen as a series, graphic novel, and intellectual property in general was never on the handles in the first place.

It's so good.

The Watchmen graphic novel redefined its medium back when that medium was very young. Television has matured as a medium and nothing will ever be able to do to TV what the Watchmen graphic novel did for graphic novels. Still, the Watchmen TV series transcends its medium in much the same way. The layers of detail are incredible.

Yeah, a ton of stuff happened this latest episode:

We learn Angela's past and what led her to becoming a cop.

Agent Blake gets kidnapped by the 7th Kavarly and Joe Keane reveals his plan of getting Dr. Manhattan's powers, possibly for him alone, possibly for the entire 7th. Also it's confirmed that Crawford and his wife are/were both involved in the 7th/Cyclops.

Lady Trieu's Millennium Clock is set to activate in a few hours and seems poised to stop whatever the 7th are doing. Also her daughter is actually her cloned mother.

The big one: Angela's husband Cal IS Dr. Manhattan. He came back to Earth, disguised himself as a regular human and gave himself amnesia. For the last some-odd years, he's been living as Cal unaware of that, but Angela knew and realized that because of all the crap going on, it was time to bring back Jon, so she bashed Cal's head in with a hammer and dug out of his skull a metal "hydrogen atom" symbol that apparently was the kick to restore Jon's memory and powers.

Such woke

I'm enjoying the plot but that's not why I give the show such high praise. What's great about the show is the way that the writing, editing, music, color grading, set design, etc, all come together to reinforce each other and build on the graphic novel. The show has its hooks deep in the source material and has all the same stylistic flare, yet at the same time feels totally original.

It's a bummer that some viewers don't enjoy the show because they're offended by the "woke" themes, I guess. If that's you, I'd say... just remind yourself that Watchmen takes place in an alternate history, the KKK isn't a representation of you personally (there are a bunch of white good-guys to identify with too), and maybe give it another shot.

I haven't seen the show and I'm glad you guys love it but based solely on the write ups of the plot ITT it sounds awful.

Dr Manhattan is some black dude with amnesia who is killed by his own wife to get a bit of his brain to bring back Dr Manhattan to stop another Dr Manhattan from being created and someone's daughter is actually a clone

wut... this reads like the aftermath of a CYOA

What does any of this have to do with the Cold War or God metaphors? Seems to be missing the point

Yeah, trying to gauge a show like this based on just one episode (and the 6th or 7th at that) is a bad idea.

why would a follow up to watchmen approx 30 years on from it deal with the exact same issues?

Also its pretty obvious how it ties into the 'god' idea tbh

True but you can't really say it's missing the point if you don't know the context, right? The GN was about the politics at the time. This show is doing the same. But you'd have to watch it from the beginning to know that.

It's really not a big jump to imagine that a god like being who has become growingly detached from humanity would seek to live as a human for a period of time once again (and detach themselves from their memories post-godhood in doing so) in order to address this detachment.

The nostalgia pills may play into this in some way too

I have a theory that Ozymandias is actually dead. They're pulling a Westworld on us and we're being given scenes that happened some time in the past, and his being "declared dead" was legit. The only thing that deters me from this theory is if that were the case, then he'd be having zero impact on the story right now and we're just watching him for the sake of watching him. Maybe his clone servants will have some impact instead?

Why would it still be about the Cold War?
The worlds smartest man ended it 30 years ago, so why would it still be about it?
It is still about the aftermatch of it, so howmis that not related?

I felt the same way as you when I watched the first four episodes, because the person I watched it with didn't tell me it wasn't a reboot or a remake but actually more of a continuation of that plot. I appreciated it a lot more as I slowly started to realize over the first couple episodes that everything that was "canon" to me actually happened in this show. It's pretty hard to have an opinion about it if you haven't watched it at all.
