It really is meant for Boomers, after all.

I mean, the family going to a Chinese restaurant for Christmas dinner and having the entire waitstaff sing "TIS THE SEASON TO BE JORRY! FA RA RA RA RA, RA RA RA RA!!!" at the top of their lungs is the sort of thing a Boomer would find funny.

And of course, the kid's main obsession with getting a bb gun (bb rifle?) as a present, rather than the latest Xbox or whatever (NINTENDO SIXTY-FOOOOOOOUR!!!!! OH MY GOD!!!!)

You don't have to be a Boomer to enjoy it. You don't have to be one to get a BB gun for Christmas either. I'm a millennial who got one as a kid. I never shot my eye out either.

And I'm fine with shitting on boomers when they deserve it, but some of y'all are just too much. Besides, they're not all bad.

it's a timeless movie that everyone can relate to. the chinese joke at the end is pretty tone-deaf by modern standards but other than that i think the movie holds up very well

It's a good movie overall. Almost anything from the 1980s is bound to have some measure of sexism, racism, or homophobia -- even if they didn't see it that way back then.

I went to see that scene on youtube just now and if you told me to imagine how a movie for boomers would picture "going to a chinese restaurant for christmas" it'd be this scene. The jokes are exactly what I expected

-Chinese people say ra instead of la and then they beat you over the head with that joke for a full minute
-Then they serve food that's WILD and NUTS to us westerners, and the good christian family is horrified that the duck still has its head on
-Then the narrator voice-over reminisces "OH TEH OLD DAYS"

I watched this movie when I was like 20 and I can see why boomers would like it I guess. To me it falls completely flat, it's just so saccharine and corny

My local "Chinese restaurant" has Japanese workers, it's not exactly terribly uncommon.

It's a movie made in 1983, set in 1940, so it kinda predates boomers.

I can usually enjoy it once a year, but Jesus these television channels that play it for 24+ hours straight. They really know how to make someone hate a movie.
