Present day LaS: *Watches 3 hours of John Wolfe play dumb steam games before going to bed*

Also, I never thought 95% of my tv viewing would end up being Youtube. I haven't even attempted to get into an actual show in months. Closest thing to a show is binging RetroSpectro aka Nilseey Niles sketches. Which I've already watched 3-4 times each.

i should say, they get more tired coz of responsibilities... and it becomes easier to watch someone play than to actually play

I said that 5 years ago and I'm still saying it now. I'd rather play than watch. If I'm going to watch something, it's not going to be someone playing a game

Yeah. It doesn't help that I incorporate playing games with certain unhealthy stuff. So when I don't have that unhealthy stuff, playing a game doesn't even cross my mind anymore. Sad, sometimes I break habit tho.

But I think your laziness theory is just as relevant for me. Im so lazy I don't even want to have to follow an ongoing storyline anymore. This feels like a road with a dead end not so far in the distance >_>. I can still get into movies/shows when with others at least

Modern games also take way too long to actually finish

Much easier to just watch videos of someone else playing them

That's more likely. I don't know-- I managed to avoid a lot of the trappings of adulthood, and find I live much the same as I did in my 20s, except I work for myself, live in a house instead of an apartment and have money. Oh, and I'm not drunk half the time.

And I still respect that. I also lack the ability to feel shame about these type of things. So tho I still respect that mindstate, I hardly feel shame in not having it anymore. My fear is more so that Im letting my mind take the lazy route and by not excercising it as much, I'll eventually lose the ability to want to actually play stuff at all myself.

Then again, everytime I put on DS, I can't put it down until Im too tired to continue.

The thing is. I still play the longer games. The videos I watch top out at an hour. Im not trying to watch someone play a single game for over an hour. Though, 5 year later LaS might be on some other shit

last show I followed regularly was Lucifer before it moved to Netflix (which I don't have)

yeah, as of now 99% of my "TV" viewing is YouTube and Samsung TV (RiffTrax, especially) just to have background noise while I do other things
I don't have cable or any streaming service other than what's free

You probably approach stuff with a greater wisdom as well. When you keep gaining wisdom, you can find new ways to appreciate your already established ways. Seems like it's either that, or people gain wisdom and find new reasons to hate themselves >_>

This too. Some games don't know when to end. Part of it is also my fault because I get distracted by side quests

Not to mention that with many older games, it's much easier to watch someone else play them than try to get a copy for yourself (also consoles, certain emulators, etc that you may not have)

Im glad I like the Death Stranding gameplay loop. Cause boy can that game pad. It's symbolic that you're just going from a persons pad, to another persons pad.

That's one the things. I specifically said "steam games", cause Im a console gamer. Id never play the games he plays regardless. So maybe I was kind of misleading. I don't even watch reviews for games I know Im gonna play myself.

Then there are the games that aren't worth playing to begin with

Recently I came a cross of a video of a guy who took FOUR HOURS to finish Where's Waldo for the NES on Hard Mode
(for comparison, on Easy the game takes maybe 10 minutes to beat)

There is an aspect of "smarter not harder" that started to occur in my 30s.

Lol, who would watch that? I skip point and click stuff that John Wolfe plays. And at least his picks are still more interesting then Where's Waldo lol.

but it really shows off just how bad the game is
it's mainly that god-awful Subway stage that's near impossible to get through on Hard

Some games are okay to just watch. I watch a lot of adventure games LP, because I hate playing adventure games but I may still want to see the story. It's just like watching a TV show, really.

And then there are esports. That's just like watching a sport.

Most single player games that I enjoy however, like rpgs and strategy games, I'd rather play myself than watch someone play.
