What do you do to lose weight? Whats the most youve ever lost? What works for you that seemingly doesnt work for anybody else, and vice versa?

My roommate has lost 40lbs already doing Keto. Im down 30 by quitting soft drinks and doing old fashioned calorie deficit (I watch what I eat, but Im not going out of my way managing macro nutrients).

How bout you?

This. Reduce your calorie intake and proceed to exercise a lot.

You should also check which food negatively affects your metabolism and avoid them. Don't forget to sleep well too.

Calorie intake < daily need. Keto works but generally isn't sustainable long term and the results are mostly from the calorie deficiency that comes with eating less. It's good to do though because it makes you more aware of what habits you have and that you can do something about it.

It also seems like a minor coke habit is probably the most fun method. But even this goes back to calories in vs calories out.

Keto has worked for quick weight loss but overall watching what I eat and weight lifting works best for me. Find an exercise you like. I like lifting because I have decent strength and it also improves my cardio without running. Walk when you can to but that can be kind of hard most places.

Calorie deficit works, Keto works. Theres many ways to lose weight. What works depends on the person

However people tend to over simplify weight loss because everyone is an expert these days. Sometimes just eating less isnt the answer. Your body will evenutally adapt and will have to continually eat less or exercise more to keep losing weight. Thats part of the reason why people gain weight back, often in excess. Calories are also often miscalculated and people do a terrible job of keeping track more often than not. Calories are simply measures of heat. Our bodies calorie requirments vary throughout the week, and even throughout the day.

You have to choose a lifestyle that can be (easily) maintained for life if you want to see results and keep them. Crazy exercise plans snd restrictive diets like keto usually only work short term and are difficult to maintain unless you truly like it. Ive personallu had success with keto and know a lot of people who have maintained ketogenic diets for very long periods (years) and have done well. Keto has a lot of positive research to back it up. I will back Keto anytime.

Not to mention the food you eat plays a huge part in your overall outcome. If you eat 1500 calories of skittles everyday you will loss weight but you will not be healthy or happy. Eating higher quality foods not matter what diet you follow will serve you the most.

Eating less calories than your maintenance

You dont need to count as long as you have structured meals and roughly what you are putting in your body. Jeff Cavaliere doesnt count and he is like 6% body fat year around.

  1. Working out, preferably for at least an hour, on a regular schedule helps a lot.
  2. Eating natural foods. The more natural, the better. I'm not entirely sure why, but the less synthesized science experiments I ate the easier it was for me to lose weight.
  3. Read the labels on everything you eat. If it has a stupidly high amount of sodium or fat just don't buy it.
  4. Make your own food as much as you possibly can. You can have instant oats for breakfast tho
  5. Eat whole wheat for all your carbs. The bread, pasta and pancakes I eat are all whole wheat.
  6. Cut out all sugary drinks/anything super sugary, including fruit. This might be the hardest part tbh. I find personally that keto is good for breaking sugar addiction but not really worth it in the long run.
  7. Don't eat pork at all. Fish, in particular tuna, chicken breasts and lean cuts of beef are generally good. '
  8. You can have a cheat meal once a week, but don't make it a cheat day. A dessert afterwards is fine too. I'm guilty of having a couple of donuts after my nastiness meal.
  9. You need to change how you view food in general. Yeah, bad stuff tastes good but if it isn't really benefiting you nutritionally it's not worth eating. It could be the most expensive stuff in the world but if it makes you fat it's not worth eating. Nutrition's what matters the most

This.

The thing that works for me that doesnt work for anyone else is just eating the same thing every day. Rather than counting calories, Ill come up with a meal plan that fits calorie goal, and then prepare enough for the a week at time.

In theory should work for anyone, but people seem to get bored with eating the same thing all the time, and they just cant do it.

I'm 6'1 and about 135, lol. But I used to be pushing 200 and lost a bunch of weight by playing the Just Dance games on the Wii, and continue to do so almost daily on the Switch now. I didn't modify my diet a whole lot in terms of types of food, but admit that cancer was also in the mix a couple years ago and I never quite got my full appetite back after treatment, so it's overall been less food on top of being more physically active.

This is important, too.

I helped a friend lose weight. She was doing HIIT in the form of sprints, and cooking all her meals/cutting calories.

She didn't seem to be losing any weight, that is, until she cut alcohol completely out of her diet. Even though she was eating clean and exercising, she was still having a few glasses of wine a week. After cutting out alcohol, the weight started dropping.

It's honestly all about a lifestyle change.

  • Clean and quality food that is preferably made at home, organic and non-GMO
  • Learn to read and understand labels, macronutrients, and ingredients.
  • Plenty of high-quality protein and fats (beef, eggs, chicken, pork, fish, shrimp, scallops, butter, bacon, olive oil, MCT oil, coconut oil, avocado, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, cheeses, hummus, peanut butter, almonds, pecans)
  • Reduce your amount of net carbs (avoid most sweet fruits, juices, sodas, candies, deserts, starches, and grain products like bread, pasta, cereal and crackers)
  • Eat more fibrous fruits and vegetables (berries, lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, broccoli, spinach, cauliflower, mushrooms, brussel sprouts, kale, lettuce, carrots,
  • Adequate amounts of proper sleep (6-8 hours)
  • Exercise 2-3 times a week for at least half an hour (activity level, length and intensity of exercise varies depending on level of fitness, weight and age)
  • Don't neglect aerobic (cardio) or anaerobic (HIIT, fully body strength training) both are equally important.
  • Supplement vitamins and minerals in key areas that you are not getting enough of from your diet (potassium, magnesium, zinc, D3, K2)
  • Other helpful supplements like Apple Cider Vinegar, purified bile salts, betane hydrochloride, diindolylmethane, creatine monohydrate, cod liver oil, electrolytes, and choline.
  • Pre-workouts will help a lot, but be careful which ones you use... avoid Gatorade, Powerade, sodas or anything with sugar... and instead use sugarfree alternatives that don't have a negative impact on the body such as erythritol, stevia, and sucralose. Monster Zero Ultra, Celsius, Bang, Reign or even black coffee are all good preworkout drinks with plenty of caffeine to power you through a workout.
  • Meal replacement bars and shakes, and protein shakes... be careful of their additives, ALWAYS read the ingredients for bad fillers like maltodextrin, carrageenan, and non-GMO soy protein isolate.
  • Intermittent Fasting, almost forgot to list this but it is huge. Do not eat until you are truly hungry, and do not eat snacks, your body learns to improve insulin resistance and your body is able to go for long periods of time without eating by taping into its own fat reserves. Powerful tool when combined with low-carb and keto diets.

Gradually did all of these and lost over 60 pounds in 6 months, improved my strength and physique. I love my new body and have kept the weight off, honestly never felt better in my life, all my chronic health problems have gone away and I love helping others and educating.

I'd actually recommend you don't lower your sodium this low, keep it around 1500mg or less. But drastically increase potassium levels, which is the mineral that works with sodium to balance out fluids and electrical signals in the body. You need a 2:1 ratio of potassium to sodium, so the average person needs 3000mg of potassium, and you don't get it from eating lots of bananas. Packed with sugar and fructose that does no justice for your liver You need leafy greens, high quality proteins and fats, and electrolyte pills or powders.

Just eat less and eat better. You dont have to get all into counting calories which puts a lot of people off because it seems like too much work. You dont even have to exercise. Exercise just speeds up the process for many people although you should regularly exercise because its good for many other things.

It doesnt really matter how much you exercise or diet strictly anyways. If you do not permanently change how you consume food and what you consume then youll never make it. Yeah, youll lose weight from going on that diet or exercising but once youre satisfied, its extremely easy to revert back and gain that weight again. It begins and ends with eating healthier for the rest of your life. A person has to be willing to make a permanent change to their lifestyle. Thats the most important part. Everything else will fall into place.

Nothing worse than watching someone diet hard and exercise then once they shed the weight, they go back to their old ways. Its disappointing.
