Ford Fusion costs more than a Honda Accord, yet it looks like it was produced 15 years ago.

Also why is everyone moving away from traditional gear shifters in favor of these stupid ass knobs and buttons

But it costs more than the Accord

Also there are of course features of the Fusion cabin that look nice and modern. But the radio dash itself just looks awkward and clumsy with these stupid buttons for things.

I sort of have issues with every manufacturer, even luxury vehicles. It seems like all of them go all out on certain features/designs and then cheap out or neglect others. So you pretty much end up weighing pros and cons every time and just end up with a fairly average vehicle at nearly any price point.

Yeah I can agree with this.

That's kind of why I like my Passat, though. It has been very good to me as far as fuel consumption goes, and I've already got over 110k on it (and it's only a 2015) and it hasn't given me any issues whatsoever. The inside is simple but really functional. The only thing that really, really bugs me is I can't control my Bluetooth audio with the steering wheel controls :(

I just wish VW made a hybrid vehicle.

Because some people want to buy American no matter what and because Ford is a big name that people know. Because of those two factors, they can get away with a lot. But Honda has mastered the "cheap fancy" interior and I love it.

idk I like to hold on to it every once in a while.

And it's satisfying if I want a little more power to push it into sports mode. I haven't driven a car with buttons but I have to imagine it feels at least a little douchey to just press a button.

Column shifters are fine. I HATE the dials... they have no 'real' connection to the transmission as they are all electric. No cable or anything.

because ford, gm and chrysler are managed like shit.

Minimum investment, minimum r&d, shit providers (the companies who actually manufacture the components the use to assemble the cars, especially the interiors) and a "max money for shareholders NAO!" mentality.

While even fucking Kia thinks in decades, the detroit 3 think in quarters.

Kia: "pay some good designers, make the car look good. And spend in R&D, we want a new platform and a nice interior. This 20k car should feel like it's 30k".

Ford: "eeeehhhh, change the tailights on this old POS, switch the grill, and see whatever we can recycle from the parts bin. The existing design will do for another 8 years"

At least the 300/challenger/charger came from a kick ass, solid platform (the platform of the 90s E class Mercedes, back when Mercedes merged with Chrysler), Ford had a bunch of Volvo-sourced cars and now they don't even have that.

they decided on it a year or 2 ago but are waiting until the current models reach the end of the line.

They MAY keep the focus, and the mustang.

Oh! By the way, the Ford Mustang will now be an electric crossover vehicle XD (for real)

It shows how out of touch they are. Pony and Muscle car fans HATE unauthentic shit. Charger fans got REALLY mad when they found out the new charger was going to have 4 doors, despite the retro styling cues and sweet HEMI engine.

So what does Ford do? Take the premier pony car and turn it into a ford edge with an electic engine, lmao

I got a rental while my car was getting repaired and absolutely hated it. I'm a short dude, and the dash was really high combined with a good that sloped down really harshly to make it super hard to see over. Every time I parked I ended up way far back because I couldn't tell where the bumper actually was.

Are you talking about the Fusion?

That's one complaint I have about my Passat, too - the dash feels like it rests high even though I have the seat at the highest setting and if I squirm I can brush my hair against the ceiling.

There's also barely any leg room in the Ford Fusion. I was considering getting one, but my knees were touching the part behind the steering wheel even though the seat was all the way back. I'm 5'11", so not super tall... I couldn't see myself getting one of those simply because of that.

They still dilute the name, though. Can you imagine a porsche 911 SUV or a camaro minivan? The name and what it means goes to hell. It should be called Ford Lightning or Ford Mach E.

American manufactures have never had interiors as their strong points, they have always been more exterior focused which leads to a weird situation where you have a pretty car on the outside and a trash ass interior (see Chrysler as the absolute worst offender of this)

Chrysler has always been kinda weird about their marques, only the "upscale" stuff gets that name. Now that they're FCA and have both Alfa Romeo and Maserati in their lineup, Chrysler is basically just the "kinda fancy minivan" company, with Dodge, Jeep and Ram selling all their meat and potatoes

Parts guy and ex-service writer here. Ford's interior game has been falling behind for at least a decade, mostly for cost reasons. Sync 2 was a disaster as well, which is what they get for contracting fucking Microsoft to design an infotainment system lol

Basically, their regular consumer vehicles are not designed to live past 3 years/36k miles factory warranty. Drivelines are a little bit better since they're 5yr/60k, but not by much (cough cough DSP6 tranny)

There are exceptions to this of course, mostly in the "tried and true" department, which trades modern functionality and convenience for old fashioned reliability

Early 90s Lincolns were the shit. They had space, leather, wood, and every single little door and window switch was individually chromed.

There was a certain something about late 90s to mid 2000s semi-premium GM cars such as the Buicks and Oldsmobile Aurora, they had all sorts of Gizmos and odd but luxurious design choices. The 90s Cadillac STS too. Other than that, yes, pure shit.
