Current Events > I remember when I went to college I snuck out to an LGBTQ group meeting

I went to the Co-Ops (LGBTQ club) introductory meeting for first-years. They had us introduce ourselves (gender pronouns and gayest thing we did during summer break lol). When it was my turn I introduced myself, ...and Im gay... and thats the first time Ive said that and have been welcomed by smiling faces and everyone started clapping and I started crying right then and there. Im tearing up now just thinking about it.

Just a small moment that came to mind that makes me think about how hard it is to grow up LGBTQ. I mean, I had to attend a college far from home before I felt truly accepted.

Yeah there is nothing wrong with liking someone or being attracted to people of the same gender. I'm glad you had a good experience with the group and are able to be proud of who you are.

Yeah a metal gear solid game brought up a idea that makes a lot of sense. Humans for whatever reason have to have a enemy to hate. If they dont they become self destructive.

Its weird. People are far quicker to unite and put differences aside if they have a common enemy aka someone else to hate rather than each other.

Also some sad news: I teach middle school and I just learned that the parents of one our seventh grade girls pulled her out of her school because she came out as bi to her family. The family thinks that our school is corrupting her (with tolerance?) and is moving her to an even larger school where they think she wont be bi anymore... its so awful :( Its so heartbreaking to know that shes not getting the support she needs right now from her family. I dont even know how I can support without crossing teacher/school/student/parent boundaries. :(
