What does crediting the people at Time have to do with politics?

We all bought it. Hook, line and sinker. We all randomly cared about a literal magazine person of the year in the year of 2019 - less than a month from 2020. A MAGAZINE. A LITERAL MAGAZINE.

Why not avoid the middleman and just use one of those scientists to spread the message? Literally a 16 year old girl. A teenager doesn't have all the answers to our issues. Sorry.

She's a pawn. A pawn used to elicit an emotional reaction out of people.

I guess wanting climate change and bringing awareness about it has always been more of a left view, so I guess her getting a ton of publicity for that meant she was coming from a liberal establishment. Still an awful justification if you ask me.

She's a marketing gimmick to sell the climate conservation movement to young teenagers, and she's done that job extremely well.

People complaining about her (specifically, the right wing media) are just invoking the Streisand Effect and making her job easier tbh. >_>

There's nothing inherently wrong with this, tbh. All sorts of cultural movements have used "plants" to move the issue forward.

You genuinely sound upset over this. You can talk about sitting back with popcorn over the Greta Thunberg discourse and how cringy Time and its readers are, like you're a spectator watching a show, but you're the only person I've seen ranting and raving about "A LITERAL MAGAZINE" in a while. You wouldn't be typing in all caps about everyone "buying it" if you didn't care a significant amount about the subject matter, and it makes you look kind of unhinged.

If your goal was to look cool and collected while you gloated over people "taking the bait" set out by Time, it didn't work. You look extremely bothered right now, and it's kind of ridiculous to witness you typing about "A LITERAL MAGAZINE" in all-caps while pretending you're a cool, disaffected spectator to the supposed chaos in the fallout of Greta's Person of the Year win.

People always talk about TIME person of the year. The fact that it upsets people who try to ignore the fact that climate change is real, really has nothing to do with the fact that Greta has been a very influential person. I listened to a very interesting story on NPR about her that went on about how the human mind has a much easier time caring about things that represent an imminent threat from a tangible being. By her explicitly framing things as the fault of politicians and CEOs who refuse to do anything because of money its been really effective at rallying people.

I definitely think part of the effectiveness is using a child who still has a baby face. Seriously...look at her face. She looks like an innocent child. This can elicit an emotional reaction from people who just think anything a child or baby does is cute. Or they irrationally defend them or want her to grow up with confidence, so they support what she says.

Because the scientists have been spreading the message, basically non-stop and with overwhelming consensus for years and years. Clearly that isn't reaching people.

Well, no, I was going along with your theory that people have a much easier time caring about things from tangible people. She is a normal girl. She isn't the CEO of a company. She's relatable. Then adding my own personal twist.

We know climate change is real. The debate among conservatives is if it's man-made or not.
