The low level stuff is where most of Star Wars' truly good storytelling happens, but the contrast against the space wizardry of the "main" story has always helped it be extra cool. Rogue One is a particularly strong example of this.
Rogue One was so god damn boring I had completely zoned out for the big climax.

It's the first Star Wars since the OT I didn't see in theaters.

Looks like Abrams couldn't rescue star wars from Rian Johnson. Everything I am hearing says way too much is going on, which is of course because the 2nd leg left everything in a dumpster fire.

When has reuniting 60+ year old actors from an older movie ever gone well?

It may not have gone well, but it wouldve been nice to see even one scene of them together again. Even if they ignored what happened in the movies its impossible since we had actors die :(

Also it's hard to get invested into the Climax of a film when I don't give a damn about any of them, so when they die it doesn't feel like a poignant moment of importance.

bruh, the other star wars movies were also blockbusters

I do agree that it's stupid to judge movies ENTIRELY on the basis of whether they were made for commercial reasons or not (by that logic, Battlefield Earth is better than The Godfather), but the more commercial nature of the new Star Wars films literally explains most of the problems with them.

So I just found out the other day the person who wrote Batman v. Superman and Justice League is credited on the screenplay for this movie.

I'm not going to read any reviews; I'm going to try to go in with a fresh opinion, but I can't help but be terrified by how bad this could possibly be.

david goyer co-wrote batman begins and he didn't write the screenplay for either TDK or TDKR - the nolan brothers did. he only worked on the story for those. and he was one of three writers who wrote dark city.

i'd sooner blame the badness of batman v superman on goyer than chris terrio tbqh. goyer's track record is far worse.

Best two in the movie right here. Baze was good too but he didn't have quite as much stuff. Interested to see how Cassian's Disney+ show fleshes him out, cause the stuff he vaguely talks about having done sounds like it could be cool to see.

Anyway, I'd say that the Jedi are my favorite part of Star Wars. I love the Force stuff they do, I love the lightsaber battles, and even the training and such is fun. All the lightsaber battles in the prequels were my favorite part. I love all the acrobatics they did. Lots more fun than what we've gotten from the sequel trilogy.

Yeah, definitely.

Star wars is a family drama, set in space, with laser swords and space magic and cool spaceships.

They could do away with the whole light side of the force/dark side of the force if they wanted (grey Jedi ARE a part of the extended universe, and the whole light side/dark side forced dichotomy kinda hamstrings both the PT and ST). But they should keep the laser swords and space magic.

My point is Force-use doesn't need to be relegated to the overly simplistic and easily debunked dogmatic notions of the Jedi and the Sith, although both of which have been completely torpedoed by multiple writers failing to be consistent with either philosophies.

If Disney ever gets around to fixing that and bringing him in I'll be over the moon and happily ignore it, but until then I ain't gonna tolerate any Katarn Erasure!

Regarding Chris Terrio, my understanding us that he came in late for rewrites on BvS and was only really involved in Batman's scenes. Justice League's on him though.

this isn't weird at all. Star Wars is a top tier setting to tell great new stories in. Lightsabres, the Force, all of the tech and culture, the species, the potential is endless. Why wouldn't new movies in that that space be highly anticipated and discussed?

It actually does lend a bit of merit to the idea that the prequels are more worthwhile because at least they did cool things for the setting, while the new movies don't really utilize that design space well. Take Saw Gerrara for example - whatever his deal was could have been interesting, and he could certainly have been a memorable character, but Rogue One wasn't plotted well enough for him to be executed well. He could have been a striking representation of the extreme things the rebels had to do under the empires rule. Instead he's just a forgettable weird old guy who died right after we met him.
