Their free offerings have been pretty great. The Batman Arkham trilogy was given away for free, in addition to Subnautica. They just need to implement some QOL updates faster, and implement achievements.

I buy all the free games that they give out but I dont have the epic games launcher installed on my computer. Im not into playing PC games yet so Im just stockpiling the games for the future

It's tempting but I don't want another launcher, I already have too many and just won't bother. Plus many of their free games I already own on steam so meh.

I'm keeping my eye on Gog galaxy launcher 2.0(?), I think it's still in beta and am waiting to try that out.
It's the first time I hear about Playnite though, I'll give it a look.

The GOG 2.0 beta is publicly available, last time I checked. It's a convoluted, cluttered mess with way too many unnecessary features, IMO.
