Local Coop on PC used to be a thing, it was SUPER gimmicky in the one game i played that had it.. but fun.

Might still exist in that particular franchise, i dont recall.

Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2. Been using the same online name ever since it was randomly generated by the Microsoft Gaming Zone (or, rather, LividDK is the shortened version of it). Had a few good friendships from those days that sadly didn't outlive the game.

Phantasy Star on Dreamcast or SOCOM on ps2. Those were like every so often tho since internet was shit. Adding on also Starcraft and AOE got some play with friends too

Destiny was probably the first game I played online on a regular basis

You could choose different classes like a sniper who one shots but you have tp predict your bullet travel or choose a fast bot that was mainly for grabbing the flag. You could get a team together and rush the flag and have huge hallway wars and get multikills and the announcer would say things like monster kill if you killed like 10 players in a row.

First Xbox Live game was Whacked and I was a beta tester for it. Overall, i was playing Yahoo Chess pretty early on, that was probably the first.

Dead or Alive Ultimate.

Conquer online. It wasn't well known but it had some features that were ahead of its time it wad also an mmo. Unfortunately they found a way to make more money by offering p2w about 12+ years ago IIRC and as anything that incorporates p2w it went to shit
