Nvidia are price gouging because there's no competition at the top and PC gamers are happy with being ripped off (otherwise the internet would be making a huge fuss over gpu prices instead of buying them in droves)

Are AMD cards worth looking in to? But I've always heard they're a pain in the ass.

Wait till at least mid next year if you can. Next gen hype is gonna be in overdrive and AMD/Nvidia will likely put out something to compete.
